I have the Summicron-M 28mm. Great lens. However, the lens hood is large and bulky.

Then I have seen other versions of the same lens with a round, more classic looking hood.

Does anybody know if the round hood only fits on "limited edition" 28/2s?

Or if this also fits on a regular production.

This one fits the "normal" lens. $359.- at Popflash for example.

Nevertheless I use the Cron 28 without hood, as the lens is very resistant to flare. Just remove the pain-of-a-hood and get a no-name 46mm lenscap for less then $3.-

The round vented (and reversible) hood was firstly made available in silver on some special edition (maybe a "Hermes"), but the (identical, I think) black version was also catalogued - code 12466 ; special edition lenses haven't a different mount, so one can clearly use a 12466 on a "normal" Summicron 28 : I don't know if it is still listed, but this is easy to verify at an official dealer; I think that maybe the lens is still provided with the rectangular 12451 hood.
