Guest WPalank Posted October 24, 2012 Share #1 ย Posted October 24, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Would one of the members that bought the Monochrom and then download their free version of Silver Efex Pro 2 please help me out? ย I already have the software and would like to give it to a dear friend in another country. Is this possible or does one have to download the software to the same computer you are registering on? ย Thanks in Advance.
Advertisement Posted October 24, 2012 Posted October 24, 2012 Hi Guest WPalank, Take a look here Monochrom/Silver Efex Pro 2. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted October 24, 2012 Share #2 ย Posted October 24, 2012 The TAN number generates a different type of registration code than is used for the regular SE so it needs the Leica download. Once it is registered a new (regular) install on the same computer will pick up the registration. So you need to provide your friend with your TAN number and Leica owners' login. If you use the TAN code and commence the download (you don't need to finish the download), Leica will automatically email you a serial number for the software. You can then email this serial to your friend you can download the (very latest) version of the software from the software vendor's website. I know that this works because I downloaded a slightly more recent version of Silver Efex than Leica had available at the time and simply used the serial number supplied by Leica. I didn't use the software made available by Leica in the owner's area.
holgerf Posted October 24, 2012 Share #4 ย Posted October 24, 2012 Besides what you can do and what would work you should have in mind what you a allowed to do. Generally a software that is given for free is not allowed to give it to other people or to copy it. This is stated in the EULA (end user license agreement) which we generally accept without reading it ;-) ย Best Holger
Guest WPalank Posted October 24, 2012 Share #5 ย Posted October 24, 2012 Thanks Holger, i go on record as not going to be able to do this. ย I actually work for said company, but my contacts there are in 24/7 meetings with Google at the moment, and I'm not getting return calls or email. I was going to ask them for a free copy, which I'm sure they will do for me in the near future.

I didn't use the software made available by Leica in the owner's area. I tried that. The serial number I got from Leica did not fit the regular download. It had a different number of digits. I had to download the software from Leica. After I activated it, it was not properly installed in LR, so I did a normal download, which automatically picked up the earlier activation. wattsy Posted October 25, 2012 Share #7 ย Posted October 25, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) It had a different number of digits. ย I don't recall there being a problem. I downloaded 2.006 from Nik and used the 25 digit serial provided by Leica.

Guest WPalank Posted November 8, 2012 Share #12 ย Posted November 8, 2012 I agree with Holgerf..... ย One of the top guys at Nik finally got out of a Google meeting and agreed with me. The Software is priced into the camera an therefore mine to do what I want with. ย For example, the camera arrives with a camera strap. If I decide to give the strap to a friend, so be it. End of story. He then added, anytime I want a copy of the software to give away, he would take care of me. He apologized for not getting back to me sooner.

You should be able to sell used software licenses just like everything else in life and it will still be valid. But you don't own the software, you own a license to use it on a limited basis (1 computer, 3 computers, etc are the most regular limitations). It is not limited to one specific person however.
