chris_tribble Posted October 20, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted October 20, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Having heard a few recordings of the shutter release / re-cock of the M compared with the M9, I'm not convinced that the loss of the DISCREET shutter release is a good thing. If it's technically possible, how many of us would want to bid for a DISCREET option to be maintained. In my own practice this is the default for me with the M9, and I fought long and hard for it to be introduced on the M8 (it came with the M8.2). Â I shall write to Leica myself. If others think that it would be useful to have this feature on the M, then maybe Andreas can start a poll - or those concerned can respond to this posting (and add any other thoughts they might have). Â Interested to hear what you think.
Advertisement Posted October 20, 2012 Posted October 20, 2012 Hi chris_tribble, Take a look here M Firmware options wishlist. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
dwbell Posted October 20, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted October 20, 2012 Chris, could you link to the recordings you reference? All the activations I've heard have sounded crisper (but not louder) than the 9 but mainly they appear to have no recock whine, which is the bit discreet allows you to do later / somewhere else. So without that whine I guess they figured no need to have that option either? Â Edit - my firmware wish would be the movie button to be able to select ISO and the wheel (while movie depressed) to scroll through the ISO's. bocaburger Posted October 20, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted October 20, 2012 What I am hoping is that there is a way to disable the Live-View and Video buttons so I don't have to think about an accidental press turning them on. I appreciate that others find those to be worthwhile features, but I don't. Given the price of the Mnothing I don't feel like I'm being forced to pay extra for those features, so it's all good. But I would not like to have to keep in mind to keep my fingers away from those buttons to avoid inadvertently switching them on.

Can't remember how far in it was.  Interview on the floor with Stefan Daniel of Leica Camera AG at Photokina 2012 about the new Leica M and Leica ME on Vimeo  I'd be interested in any comment from those who were at Photokina and actually handled the thing...  Best
andybarton Posted October 21, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted October 21, 2012 I was there and handled the thing. Â The shutter sound is completely different from earlier digital Ms. It's a completely different shutter in the M and is significantly quieter. At least it sounded that way in Hall 1
