philipus Posted October 17, 2012 Share #3 Posted October 17, 2012 Did you shoot these on an M8? If so the comparison may not be entirely fair due to the crop factor.
bwibowo Posted October 17, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted October 17, 2012 Yes both are taken using same M8. without edited, both picture have difference, Summilux pict is sharper. but if i adjust the exposure in Voigtlander pict, the result almost the same. I believe some advantage of having the Summilux, but what? Did you shoot these on an M8? If so the comparison may not be entirely fair due to the crop factor. philipus Posted October 18, 2012 Share #5 Posted October 18, 2012 I haven't used that Voigtländer but did use a 35 CV II for a while which I found to be rather good. It is definitely the case that in terms of image quality for the money - and using that as the only benchmark - Voigtländer lenses are miles ahead of Leica lenses. The same can be said about Zeiss lenses and even Canon and Nikon lenses. Using that same benchmark, also old Leica/Leitz lenses are ahead of the newest Asph wonders. But not everything is told by the price one pays for equipment. I usually don't judge lenses based on pixel-peeping but on how they perform in different lighting situations. I feel I can rely 100% on my Summilux 50 Asph but that doesn't mean I won't use my Summitar. Likewise, while I really enjoy using my 90 Elmarit-M, again a lens which, "bang for the buck, is ahead of the more modern 90 Summicron, I do enjoy my 9cm Elmar from 1934. As with so many other discussions here, whichever lens one prefers comes down to that, preference.
bill Posted October 18, 2012 Share #6 Posted October 18, 2012 ...As with so many other discussions here, whichever lens one prefers comes down to that, preference. That, for me, is the crux of the matter. When I bought my MP4 and had the funds for a Summilux I chose a Sonnar instead. Equally, when I had a 35mm Summicron V4 "bokeh king" I replaced it with a CV Pancake II. In each case I preferred the rendition and was happier with the end result. And that, ultimately, is what it's all about... Regards, Bill Sent from another Galaxy
bpalme Posted October 18, 2012 Share #7 Posted October 18, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I can't really get much from these photos.. too dark. Can you do one with some good light and trees or beards/hair to show sharpness and detail? Maybe some wide open to show bokeh too.
jaques Posted October 18, 2012 Share #8 Posted October 18, 2012 yes... how do these lenses render beards in bright sun? That's what matters to me in a lens gives me chicken bums just thinking about it.
gyoung Posted October 18, 2012 Share #9 Posted October 18, 2012 No point in comparing 1.4 lenses in bright sun, coal cellars is what they are made for. Gerry

wosim Posted October 19, 2012 Share #11 Posted October 19, 2012 I really love the Nokton 40mm. It is very sharp and renders - in my eyes - in a very pleasing way. Here you can find some ohter pics with the Nokton: https://sites.google.com/site/wosimsphotography/projects/deutschland---germany---germania/muenchen---munich/oktoberfest Here is a shot by night (M9, ISO 800, no postprocessing) and a crop: Welcome, dear visitor! pico Posted October 19, 2012 Share #12 Posted October 19, 2012 1/20th of a second is too long an exposure to make comparisons. At that speed your heartbeat influences outcomes to varying extents. Next time you might want to do a real test rather than something shot from your seat at a bar or restaurant. . Meaningless comparison. Sorry. .
