allamande Posted October 15, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted October 15, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Many hours behind schedule, the shuttle passes through my spot on its way to the Science Museum. I had no daylight left but I tried my best to document it with my M8/Zeiss 21 Biogon. Â Endeavour arrived at its destination tonight (Sunday), 17 hours behind schedule. Given the mind-boggling complexity of the operation, I'd say it was a smashing success. My hat's off to everyone, from the engineers to the tree trimmers, who made it happen. Â Note the power lines in the first image below. They were all raised up days in advance along the route. allamande Posted October 17, 2012 Author Share #8 Â Posted October 17, 2012 macrobernd, Bateleur, Stuart, Tim, and Paul, (and those who gave the thumbs up), Â Thank you for looking at this series and for commenting. It is truly a pleasure to share this event with you here and I am happy that I could do it. Endeavour indeed looked dirty and worn out in places (the heat shield tiles especially). It is an ongoing discussion among enthusiasts as to whether the museum will clean it up before it goes on display or whether they will display it warts and all. I suppose one can argue both sides. I kind of liked seeing all the wear and tear (clearly not all of it space travel related). Â Ece
Frank Sellitto Posted October 17, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted October 17, 2012 (edited) Ece, Â An enjoyable series of images not just in scope and proportion alone but also the surreal nature of the experience. Well done! Â Frank Edited October 17, 2012 by FrankSellitto
janlu Posted October 17, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted October 17, 2012 Yes ... it seems a surreal event and you did very well to render the feeling of this with a strong sense of composition.... Really great work Ece !! Â Best, Gianluca

euston Posted October 20, 2012 Share #14  Posted October 20, 2012 Very well done, Ece! Your detailed, vivid pictures put us right there to witness the old girl’s lap of honour.  I hope they won’t clean her up too much. She carries the unique patina of repeated space travel. It would be a shame to lose that.

allamande Posted October 21, 2012 Author Share #16 Â Posted October 21, 2012 Frank, Gianluca, Virgil, Ben, Tri, Robert, and Mike, Â Thank you so much for your feedback. As always, your time and thoughts are much appreciated. And, I am very glad to know that you liked this set. I've never experienced anything like it (and probably never will), the whole surreal nature of the event sometimes makes me think that I dreamed it all. That last trip was worthy -in complexity- of the shuttle's own history. Â Robert, I agree with you. I hope they'll leave most (if not all) of the dust alone.
