Manashu Posted October 6, 2012 Share #1 Posted October 6, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Though being very happy with my X2, I do miss the possibility to make DNG-only shots! Do you think a firmware update could change that - and in case - could one hope for that to come? I am new to Leica.
Advertisement Posted October 6, 2012 Posted October 6, 2012 Hi Manashu, Take a look here DNG only?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
HiltonJoy Posted October 6, 2012 Share #2 Posted October 6, 2012 I'm not 100% sure, but I think the JPG is required for the LCD / PLAY view. Just minimize the JPG to 1.8 Mb. Doesn't take up much storage.
spylaw4 Posted October 9, 2012 Share #3 Posted October 9, 2012 I did ask when the X1 first came out - "Not possible" was the response.

I think no jpeg is needed for the LCD display. But your second point makes sense. When importing into Lightroom the jpeg is discarded because, if needed, one can be produced from the DNG file. One advantage of a low-res jpeg in addition to the DNG is for previewing black and white versions of a scene. A quality B&W can be derived from the DNG later. mjh Posted October 9, 2012 Share #5 Posted October 9, 2012 Do you think a firmware update could change that - and in case - could one hope for that to come? The JPEG is used in lieu of an embedded preview, so no, it won’t change. It didn’t change in the case of the X1 either. What’s wrong with the JPEG anyway? robert blu Posted October 10, 2012 Share #6 Posted October 10, 2012 I simply select and than delete all the jpg's after imported in LR besides the DNG. robert

HiltonJoy Posted October 13, 2012 Share #8 Posted October 13, 2012 In LR general preferences you can select " Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos " If you leave this unchecked the JPEG's are not imported.
