iphoenix Posted September 5, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted September 5, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Just picked up my R-E, etc. from the auction yesterday. It was as described (hardly used) and came with a Vario-Elmar 28-70, 3.5-4.5 lens. The built in lens hood is very loose and just "flops around" when extended. It feels as though there is no (or very little) felt to hold it in position. Is there any way for the average idiot (me ) to tighten the hood, or is it a job for an expert? stuny Posted September 5, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted September 5, 2012 A temporary solution, lasting part of a day, depending on how often you extend the hood, is to slightly moisten the felt and rub the nap the wrong way.
iphoenix Posted September 6, 2012 Author Share #3 Â Posted September 6, 2012 Thank you Stuart; only one problem, there doesn't appear to be any felt, nor is there any evidence of there ever having been some. Not that I can find anyway. However, I will see if there is a way I can fit some. Regards, David
sdai Posted September 7, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted September 7, 2012 I do faintly remember the sigma built 28-70 has a very loose hood even when brand new. If you don't mind having the hood extended all the time, I suggest you could use a black electric tape to "fix" it in position. :-)
iphoenix Posted September 7, 2012 Author Share #5 Â Posted September 7, 2012 Thank you for that piece of information. I've tried to insert some felt, but without success. I'll fix the hood in position as you suggest. I'm amazed Leica allowed such a sloppy piece of design to be sold under it's name. Rgds, David
stuny Posted September 7, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted September 7, 2012 Yours must be an earlier model than mine - Mine has a removable hood that stores reversed over the lens.
iphoenix Posted September 8, 2012 Author Share #7 Â Posted September 8, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Apparently so Stuart. My lens's hood is permanently attached and sliding. Rgds, David
