plasticman Posted September 28, 2012 Share #182 Posted September 28, 2012 Does Kodak reference film anywhere on any of its websites anymore? I'm looking on my iPhone and genuinely can't track down a single mention of film products anywhere on any of Kodak's own sites .

menos I M6 Posted September 29, 2012 Share #184 Posted September 29, 2012 The first thing, one sees on their website upon entering is pushing products and ideas, that are genuinely out of fashion. Nobody, I know would want to jump through hoops, to have a photograph send from their electronic device to a printer - nobody. Why would people want in todays world a print of a photo - for what? This business is done, over. It was for a short time, to milk the transition between the generation, who were used to receiving their photos from the lab as small prints to the all electronic market today, where everybody seems to have smartphone, tablet or portable computer, sharing and watching photographs on screens. Did Kodak get this trend of the market? They are still investing money and labor into developing such outdated products and services (personal printers and apps for connecting them)? Are they genuinely hoping the lost market of selling consumables at great margin might magically return? Somebody should wake up some people in management over at Kodak. sblitz Posted September 29, 2012 Share #185 Posted September 29, 2012 They are in the image business not photo. Fuji somehow managed to make the transformation. But Kodak went cheap years ago on their consumer end and so they failed rip. hope someone better buys the film business.
AlanG Posted September 29, 2012 Share #186 Posted September 29, 2012 Somebody should wake up some people in management over at Kodak. You are a master of understatement. It is far too late for that and I see no hope for them. They did try a number of things in the digital realm including on-line services. Some companies simply can't adapt to change and Kodak is probably on its last attempt at adaptation for survival. Numerous people wrote off IBM at one point. And even after they recovered, they wondered why IBM got out of the hardware business selling their disk drive division to Toshiba and Thinkpad division to Lenovo. But IBM has thrived. I think it would be interesting to understand what were the differences in management and decision making between IBM and Kodak. Kodak's shares closed at $0.186 today and their total market capitalization is only $50M. So to leave on a positive note... perhaps things can only go up from here!
