Jaybob Posted October 8, 2012 Share #21 Posted October 8, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I own an M Rokkor 28mm f2.8. While it's a completely servicable lens, it's tactile operation is nowhere near as damped and refined as the circa 1991 Elmarit 28 v3 that I "downgraded" from. I don't have any scientific measuring devices, but simple observation tells me that the Minolta's contrast and shaprness are easily not even remotely close to the benchmarks set by the Mandler design. At the time, I was quite happy to pocket the difference ($$$$ ka-chiiiing $$$$), but, in retrospect, that was a very fleeting feeling. On the upside, the Rokkor is much smaller and lighter, and, as it turns out, I use it just as infrequently as I used the Elmarit. I'm ambivalent about the 28mm focal length, (and 35mm for that matter) sometimes it's too wide, sometimes it's not wide enough. Usually, it's just not interesting, to my eye anyway. I see a used 25 Zeiss or a used 24 Elmarit-M in my future.

brianv Posted October 9, 2012 Share #22 Posted October 9, 2012 I now use a Canikon 50mm F1.5 with my Leica. Made it this past weekend. Very rainy weekend!

k_g_wolf ✝ Posted November 18, 2012 Share #24 Posted November 18, 2012 (edited) Besides some V/C-lenses (12, 15, 35, 50 mm) I have a MINOLTA Rokkor 40 mm which I use frequently with extremely good results. It´s a very compact lens, a perfect companion when weight matters. Sold a bunch of SCHACHT-lenses to trade up to LEITZ-gear years ago. Looking at the >>View-through-older-glass<<- thread these days I´am regretting this move now. Thank´s to all the experts keeping this thread alive! flyalf Posted November 18, 2012 Share #25 Posted November 18, 2012 Just purchased a Jupiter 8. Great rendering. For you others that own a Jupiter 8: Have you tested focus accuracy on a M9? Results? I experienced some backfocus on mine, have fixed with permasorium small tape glued to lens where it touches the cam.
