bpalme Posted August 14, 2012 Share #1 Posted August 14, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I'm planning to send my 28 out for cleaning and 6 bit. I just finished a trip where I mostly used the 28 and did not select the lens in the camera. I don't really notice any problems with the photos. Is this lens wide enough where it's really necessary to be 6 bit coded? The only other thing is it's $135 which I think would help it sell if I do decide to sell it... and should increase the value at least $100 bucks worth.. maybe.. Advertisement Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 Hi bpalme, Take a look here 28 Summicron need 6 bit?. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
adan Posted August 14, 2012 Share #2 Posted August 14, 2012 (edited) M8 or M9? On an M8 you can get away with no coding at 28mm (sometimes) but not with the M9 - wider viewing angle. I believe Leica USA lens coding has gone up to $250 per lens. Edited August 14, 2012 by adan
bpalme Posted August 14, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted August 14, 2012 Thank.. I'll just go ahead and do it. (M9) That's the price DAG charges.

Just exactly how many lenses do you own that needed coding?
hoppyman Posted August 14, 2012 Share #6 Posted August 14, 2012 I suggest that you do have the coding done at the same time as the servicing. There ought to be some time and cost efficiencies doing it that way in any event. The price to have it updated is small in comparison to the value of the lens too. Should you want to sell it later it is more attractive as well. But don't sell it!!! As well as the convenience of having the information in EXIF it makes a significant difference in results with the M9 (vignetting correction in DNG)

It's like giving a child up for adoption.
