Â This is so since the M6 came out in 1984. Does the newest M 240 model provide Matrix metering? I ask this here, rather than in the first section with its higher viewer rate. But unlike the classic mode, the two new modes will meter off the image sensor. So when firing a frame in matrix-metering mode, the following sequence of actions will happen (even when not using live view):  close the shutter (which was open for metering off the sensor) half-recock the shutter and reset the sensor open the shutter for exposure close the shutter to end exposure fully recock the shutter open the shutter to continue metering Well—I prefer the classic metering mode.  And what's half vs full recocking? The focal-plane shutter has two curtains. When firing the shutter, the first curtain will move out of the way to start exposure, then the second curtain will follow the first to end exposure. After that, a full recock is required. However when exposing the sensor for live view or matrix metering (as opposed to taking a picture) then only the first curtain will move up and down which requires only a partial recock. Not sure what difference it makes if any though. The menu structure is poorly designed. When in the main menu the Classic light-metering mode is selected then, in the Set menu, any option besides Center-weighted will make a difference only when shooting in live-view mode.  In other words—when in Classic light-metering mode and not using live view, the metering method will always be Center-weighted, no matter what you've selected in the Set menu. So when you're not using live view and still want to use either Multi-field (= matrix) or Spot metering then you must select the Advanced light-metering mode in the main menu. However I'd recommend against using the Advanced light-metering mode because it will drain your battery and stress your sensor.  And oh, by the way—I made a mistake in the description of the sequence of actions above. The half recock will happen right after opening the first shutter curtain for multi-field metering or live view, not after closing it. Closing will be just a faint "click". Opening is "click-zzz". Difficult to compare with film Ms but in classic mode, the M240's shutter+motor noise is similar to the shutter noise alone (excluding re-cock) of the M8.2 in discreet mode. Normally I don't care about a new model during the first 9 - 12 months. Got my two M8 one Photokina later, end of 2008. Only one here now, because it's mostly M6TTL for me. We'll see. Anyway, just a guess: why would something called mini M be FF? We'll know soon Back to the subject: 2/75 IQ is great at all distances imo. I also considered the Summarit, and liked it for its dimensions. I decided to get the Summicron, because its faster, and focus closer.  I however have noticed a roughness in the closer focus(when focused around the closet point distance .7m this does not always occur, but can be really concerning when it happens. Only noticed this this morning(first time it happened). most of the time the focusing is smooth, but then I encountered this this morning? Â Yes, I had a similar problem with a 75 Summicron bought in April. The focussing action would bind slightly around the 0.75m mark; enough IMO to interfere with accurate focussing. Leica Mayfair sent it back to Solms and it is now smooth and consistent throughout the whole focussing range. Link to post Share on other sites More sharing options...
mirekti Posted June 3, 2013 Share #76 Â Posted June 3, 2013 Few minutes ago I was unscrewing the polarizer from the Cron and the front threads ring came out from the lens. As I didn;t screw the polarizing filter to it hard it was easy to unscrew it from the lens thread ring. I was ablte to screw the lens thread ring back to the lens. Â Shold the lens go to Solms or the unscrewing front threads is something that just happened and after I put it back I should not worry about it?
