Leicakillen Posted April 14, 2013 Share #21 Â Posted April 14, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) Mine is my favourite M lens of all. I find the focus action precise and accurate. /quote]Â Dear Geoff, Inspired by your beautiful images and always balanced and insightful writings I am now the proud owner of a Summicron 75/2. I am very happy with it, have now problems at all with the focusing, actually I find it easier to focus than my beloved Summilux 50/1,4 ASPH. With the narrow DOF but excellent sharpness @ 2,0 I get the images I want. Thanks! /Anders

mirekti Posted April 14, 2013 Share #22 Â Posted April 14, 2013 I am supprised to see how many have problems with the flare. In this article the author claimed it was impossible to get some Leica Lens Review: 75mm Summicron f 2.0 | Adam Marelli Photo   Well that might depend on your particular copy. IIRC, there was a thread in the German part of this forum showing a 75/2 Summicron exhibiting severe flare. Attaching a longer hood was a considerable improvement. Then Leica CS had a look at it and found there was a reflection inside on the side of the lens. They painted it dark and the flare problem was gone. hoppyman Posted April 15, 2013 Share #25 Â Posted April 15, 2013 Since this thread has been recently active, I would add a further comment on focus accuracy. In my experience this lens has no focus SHIFT which greatly contributes to its ease of use for me where I commonly shoot just a little stopped down. Providing always of course that lens and camera are adjusted correctly in the first place. Solms checked mine gratis back in 2009 with my M8 then and it still remains my accurate reference on my M9 now. Still works fine Bri-1 photo - Geoff Hopkinson photos at pbase.com I hope to give it a thorough proving on my M when I can get delivery
fursan Posted April 15, 2013 Share #26 Â Posted April 15, 2013 For me, the best lens from the Leica stable. I use it on the MP, M7, M8, ME. Â My travel bag has 2 lenses always packed and ready to go... Â 1 of them is invariably the 75mm cron. I have the lux 75.., just for bragging rights not for photographs. erl Posted April 15, 2013 Share #27 Â Posted April 15, 2013 Advertisement (gone after registration) the 75 cron is my 'goto' lens. Â I believe the reason is because, IMO, it most closely approximates the essential or central part of our normal vision, more so than a 50mm. Â Aside from that, it is a killer lens technically. I have the lux 75.., just for bragging rights not for photographs.  I see you have a Lux and 'Cron 75mm. Could I ask a huge favor, please?  Would you mind photographing both lenses side by side, if you get a chance, please? I am hoping, at the end of the year, to get a leica kit and a 75mm is on my wish list. However, the size difference between the two lenses is a concern to me and there are no secondhand 'lux lenses around for me to see the size.  Also, does the 'lux fit into a jacket pocket or is it too big?  Thanks in advance, John
Printmaker Posted April 15, 2013 Share #29 Â Posted April 15, 2013 Threads like this tend to be expensive. Every time I look at Geoff's photos, I consider getting the 75 Summicron to replace my 50 Summicron.

Mandler designed the 75/1.4 and it has his signature. I do not know who designed the 75/2.0, but it is very sharp and as a result has its own signature.  This does not mean the 75/1.4 is not sharp, but renders differently.  75/1.4 Welcome, dear visitor! MarkP Posted April 16, 2013 Share #32 Â Posted April 16, 2013 I have this little voice in the back of my head teling me to get a 1.4/75 Summilux but I think the Summicron is enough. rolleyes:
erl Posted April 16, 2013 Share #33 Â Posted April 16, 2013 Mark, I too lusted after the 1.4, but got the 2.0 and am very happy. I am sure you understand the Pro's and Con's of both. Either will keep you happy. Â You will find the 2.0 easier to come by and will end up with that unless you are determined to find a 1.4.
Printmaker Posted April 16, 2013 Share #34 Â Posted April 16, 2013 That would be a mistake.Supplement the 50 with the 75! Both superb lenses. Â I know, but I'm always looking for the simple kit - one lens on the camera (like the 35 for landscapes, etc,) and one in my pocket (like the 75 for portraits and closeups). Years ago my pocket lens was a 90 TeleElmarit. I wore it out and replaced it with the bigger and heavier 90 Elmarit M. Â The 75 Summarit would be a great pocket lens but it sure feels cheap when you compare it side by side with a 75 Summicron or even a 90 Elmarit M. I should just get over it and get the Summarit. erl Posted April 16, 2013 Share #35 Â Posted April 16, 2013 If 'pocket' is a factor for you, definitely the 2.0 is better than the 1.4. As you observe, the summarit is even smaller. Life wasn't meant to be easy!

sblitz Posted April 16, 2013 Share #39 Â Posted April 16, 2013 the 75mm summicron is a great lens, the lead shot on my website was taken with it. when you have the 50 and the 75 you realize there is a difference in practice. all that glass does weight a lot, though. erl Posted April 16, 2013 Share #40 Â Posted April 16, 2013 Steve, consider my technique. Make the 75 your 'goto' lens such that it is mostly on the camera. You will eventually consider that 'normal'. Subsequently, your 50 Cron will then feel lighter! Simple reversal of psychology.
