I am very happy with it, have now problems at all with the focusing, actually I find it easier to focus than my beloved Summilux 50/1,4 ASPH. Well that might depend on your particular copy. IIRC, there was a thread in the German part of this forum showing a 75/2 Summicron exhibiting severe flare. Attaching a longer hood was a considerable improvement. Then Leica CS had a look at it and found there was a reflection inside on the side of the lens. They painted it dark and the flare problem was gone.

Since this thread has been recently active, I would add a further comment on focus accuracy.

In my experience this lens has no focus SHIFT which greatly contributes to its ease of use for me where I commonly shoot just a little stopped down. Providing always of course that lens and camera are adjusted correctly in the first place. Solms checked mine gratis back in 2009 with my M8 then and it still remains my accurate reference on my M9 now.

the 75 cron is my 'goto' lens.

 

I believe the reason is because, IMO, it most closely approximates the essential or central part of our normal vision, more so than a 50mm.

 

Aside from that, it is a killer lens technically.

However, the size difference between the two lenses is a concern to me and there are no secondhand 'lux lenses around for me to see the size.

 

Also, does the 'lux fit into a jacket pocket or is it too big?

Two different lenses for different occasions. Mandler designed the 75/1.4 and it has his signature. I do not know who designed the 75/2.0, but it is very sharp and as a result has its own signature.

 

This does not mean the 75/1.4 is not sharp, but renders differently.

Supplement the 50 with the 75!

I have this little voice in the back of my head teling me to get a 1.4/75 Summilux but I think the Summicron is enough. rolleyes:

Mark, I too lusted after the 1.4, but got the 2.0 and am very happy. I am sure you understand the Pro's and Con's of both. Either will keep you happy.

 

You will find the 2.0 easier to come by and will end up with that unless you are determined to find a 1.4.

I know, but I'm always looking for the simple kit - one lens on the camera (like the 35 for landscapes, etc,) and one in my pocket (like the 75 for portraits and closeups). Years ago my pocket lens was a 90 TeleElmarit. I wore it out and replaced it with the bigger and heavier 90 Elmarit M.

 

The 75 Summarit would be a great pocket lens but it sure feels cheap when you compare it side by side with a 75 Summicron or even a 90 Elmarit M. I should just get over it and get the Summarit.

If 'pocket' is a factor for you, definitely the 2.0 is better than the 1.4.

As you observe, the summarit is even smaller.

If you are getting a 75 do keep in mind the closest focus distances. ).7m for the APO Summicron

But you still need a 50

 

Possibly some interest in samples from the 75 on the M??? Do check back in a week or two;)

the 75mm summicron is a great lens, the lead shot on my website was taken with it. when you have the 50 and the 75 you realize there is a difference in practice. all that glass does weight a lot, though.

Steve, consider my technique.

Make the 75 your 'goto' lens such that it is mostly on the camera. You will eventually consider that 'normal'. Subsequently, your 50 Cron will then feel lighter! Simple reversal of psychology.
