It is not an issue I ever had when using the same procedures with LR3. I always store photos in one external drive (call it G) and backups in another (H). When importing from the card into my PC I first create a new folder (eg Paris2012) in drive G then another (eg Paris2012.backup) in drive H. I then open LR import module and set the primary import location as Paris2012 in G Drive with a second copy to Paris2012.backup in H Drive. The problem is that as soon as I set the location for the second copy in LR, it replaces the primary location and saves the pictures only in that backup (H) drive. Can anyone help on this please? Jeff S Posted July 21, 2012 Share #2 Posted July 21, 2012 You should only need to specify once, in the file handling panel, if you choose to back-up at the import stage and, if so, the location. After that, unless you change something, you should be good to go at each card import. You may or may not choose to keep these unedited DNGs (if that's what you're saving) in addition to the edited files that you routinely (frequency as you specify) back up. The problem is that with LR4 (though not previously with LR3) as soon as I specify the backup folder LR re-sets my choice of main folder with the one I have stipulated as a backup. First, make a copy of all the RAW files and place them on an archival drive. It will allow you always make a real copy from the original files. Then make a user copy of the raw file which you import into LR. Once imported, the RAW files will become DNG's, but they will never be RAW files again.
