Åmund Posted July 4, 2012 Share #1 Posted July 4, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I planned to look at my latest images and tried to import them into LR4 from my memory card. The process seemed to proceed normally, but when they all seemed to be ready, I got the message "The files could not be copied to the backup location" Does that mean that my 1TB backup harddisc is kaput? Advertisement Posted July 4, 2012 Posted July 4, 2012 Hi Åmund, Take a look here Problems with importing. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Bobitybob Posted July 5, 2012 Share #2 Posted July 5, 2012 Not necessarily. Depending on how you have LR configured it should have added the images to your catalogue/and or copied the files to the folder/directory where you normally store them. It will then try to back the images up to a separate disk. It probably means that LR can't find the back up disk as the path has changed. If it's still working, you should be able to see it in Finder on a Mac or Explorer if you use a PC If you use a Mac and have Time Machine using this disk as its backup location it can sometimes hide this from other applications. If it is a Time Machine disk then Time Machine is backing up your photos anyway unless you have told it not to, so you may not need this function in LR. if it's not A Time Machine disk or you are using a PC, then try removing it as the backup location in LR and then closing and restarting LR and adding it again to reset the path. Hope that's helpful
thotan Posted July 5, 2012 Share #3 Posted July 5, 2012 Also, just make sure that you haven´t accidently chosen a different destination for your import.
jgeenen Posted July 5, 2012 Share #4 Posted July 5, 2012 Look at your import settings. You most likely ticked the option to write a backup copy immediately after the import. If that location is not available (I.e. drive not connected or not powered on) then you get exactly this message.
