Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone knows if 'Modern' 43mm filters with thread right onto a Nikkor Q 135mm lens with 43mm threads?

My google searches have only been able to confirm Nikkor Q 135's of this version had series vii filters eg:43mm -but- I can't find confirmation as to whether I can just thread a brand new filter on the front. The seller doesn't have any modern 43mm filters to confirm for me.

BTW: It's a LTM lens and I plan to use it for color photography on an M8 and I know for a fact the situation demands using an ir cut filter or all the uniforms are a mess.

Sincerely

Richard in Michigan

There's some confusion somewhere because Series VII filters are much bigger than 43mm and Series VI are smaller. The diameter of the actual filter seems to be 1-5/8″ (about 41mm) and the retaining ring thread as far as I know is 1-3/4″ x 36tpi (about 44mm).

In other words if the thread is 43mm diameter it's not for a Series filter and most likely a standard 43mm thread will fit.

thanks for the info...

someone on RFF who owns the same lens says B+W 43mm filters work great on his Nikkor.

:-D

If I remember when I get home later today, I will consult my B+W booklet from the 1970's - "Für welche Kamera welche Grösse". It is a treasure trove if information published by Biermann und Weber (B+W) and lists just about anything made up to about 1975, with filter diameter and pitch.

Now.... what was it I was supposed to remember?

Best,

Jan

I remembered! As per my B+W filter bible your 3.5/135mm Nikkor has 43x0.75 filter thread, also referred to as 43ES. Just for reference, Leica 43mm filters have a 0.5 pitch.

There you have it, from B+W, the filter king....

Cheers,

Jan

Thanks Jan! :-)

Quite helpful. Now I know definitely what threads my as yet undelivered lens has.

However, I am now left with a small puzzle. Is the leica 0.5 thread pitch the 'modern' normal pitch -or- is the norm the Nikkor's 0.75 pitch?

A kind fellow on the RFF says he buys new b+w 43mm filters for his Nikkor RF lenses and they thread right on with no problems.

I shall soon find out empirically about my thread pitch question because I've ordered a new B+W 43mm UV/IR from B&H... if shipping estimates are to be trusted I think they will arrive the same day!

Sincerely

Richard Ward
