Hello, I would like to see photos taken with the CV 28mm f2 or f1,9 on the Leica M9. Please let me know if coded or not, if corrected on cornerfix , LR etc. I'm looking for a 28mm lens. The Leitz is very expensive for me. So perhaps the CV 28mm could be a good option. Thank you.

I have the f/1.9. I used it a lot when I had an M8, along with a CV 75/1.5 (giving rough full-frame equivalents of 35 and 90 respectively). Bought both lenses because I hoped Leica would come out with a full-frame in the reasonable future, and didn't want to get stuck with two expensive lenses I would rarely use again. However I have used both lenses on the M9, and I must say they are superb. No doubt the 28 is not up to the standard of a 28 Summicron wide open, but I've also got a late-model Elmarit and from f/2.8 I'm damned if I can tell the difference. All the CV lenses were always super values for the performance, but 2x or 3x moreso now considering where new and used Leica lens prices have gone up to.

I bought the Voigtlander 1.9 28mm for my M6 and I am using it now with my M9. If you get a good copy - decentring of some Voigtlander copies is reported (I had that issue with my Super wide Heliar 15mm, but not with the 1.9 28mm and my 1.4 Nokton 40mm) - it's a very fine lens.

I hope, this helps a little.

I love the 28 Summicron ASPH--it's one of the best 28mm lenses out there. But--and this is key--the CV 28 1.9 is a really nice lens even beside the 28 Summicron.

OTH, I have heard the more recent 2.0 suffers from focus shift, but I don't see that in the 28 1.9 CV.

Yes the f/2 Ultron does suffer from focus shift. I had one and it never got used because it had to be either wide open or stopped down to f/8 to be sure of getting anything in focus first time. If you have focus shift with a longer lens you can become adept at guessing the real focus point, but it is much more difficult with a wide angle. I understand the f/1.9 doesn't have focus shift. It is a shame because otherwise the f/2 is a great lens. But as Sean Reid (who has reviewed the f/1.9 and f/2) points out, it depends on what you are photographing as to whether focus shift causes a significant problem.

I had and I have sold both of them; based on the experience made on my own samples I have no doubt to recommend the older one, the f1.9.

I have the V2 and will chime in its defense- mine is awesome- I used it a lot on the M8. Didn't notice any focus issues. Lens is well built- and very sharp:

Both lenses are very nice in their own way. The 1.9 has lower contrast and can flare a bit. The 2.0 has a higher contrast, flares less - but has focus shift. If you get a well calibrated copy, the 2.0 can be really nice sharpness wise, etc. as the pictures above (and others) clearly demonstrate. For best results, you'll need to either hand code the lens or have the pits machined in by a repair person.

I might suggest the Zeiss Biogon T* 2,8/28 ZM lens as it is sharp, has good flare resistance and overall, optically - a darn good lens. The caveat of course is that it's a stop slower at f/2.8. The 2,8/25 is even better, if not the best ZM - if you don't mind a 25mm.

I too looked into the CV lenses as well as the ZM. Around this time I was going "all Leica" on my lenses and ended up biting the bullet and getting the Summicron-M 28mm f/2 ASPH. I can't say I've regretted that decision one tiny bit; it's such an amazing lens.

I owned the 1.9 and sold it because it intruded too much in to the viewfinder and my copy flared quite strongly.

I purchased the Ultron 2/28 almost 2 years ago and have no complaints. It doesn't have quite the bite of the Summicron ASPH, but it's probably as good as anything Dr Mandler would have come up with in the pre-ASPH days. Even at f2 it is perfectly useable.

I've never experienced the focus shift issue, but then again, I don't shoot test charts. In the real world it simply hasn't showed up. IMO it's a nonissue that has been blown out of proportion, if for any reason because the 28mm focal length offers so much DOF when minimally stopped down.

Build quality is very solid. There is little intrusion on the frame lines. The lens is compact and comes with a metal hood. You are not going to find a better fast 28 at this price.

I have the CV 28mm f2 Ultron and have never noticed any 'focus shift used with either my original M8 and now an M9'. For the money, IMO a good lens.

How often do you shoot it wide open and closer up? That's where you're going to see it. So if you shoot people, for example, instead of landscapes, that's going to be an issue.

Is the 28mm Ultron F2 a good choice in 2017? I mainly shoot 50mm and both my crons (rigid and v5) shine. Since 28mm is not my main focal length and I'd be shooting mainly moving subjects with it (people) at F8 and be there, I'm sure I wouldn't see a difference between the Voigtlander and a 28 Cron Asph.

The 28mm f2 is fantastic, lovely contrast, great colours, great sharpness, lightweight

You are correct in saying that focus shift is zero at f2 and f8, however remember that the focus shift is only noticeable at short distances. If its across the road you won't notice it !"!!

Hi

A quick question; 28 is not my most used lens, however, I do want to ¨complete¨ my range of lenses and look at ¨smart/sound¨ option. What would you opinion be on this CV 28 vs Elmarit v3 or v4 if you have any comparable experience?

I have the Voigt 28 1.9 and it is a strong performer on an M9/M240. I code it like a 28 cron and it does fine. I bought a 28 ‘cron which largely meant the Voigt is in a drawer now, but it works so well I hate to part with it.

I purchased 28 1.9 ASPH as complete set not so long time ago as fast 28mm for M-E. The screw-in focus tab which was included in original package makes huge difference for me in confidence of handling lens.

Couple of shots from today at municipal election campaign. Lens selected as 28 Cron in M-E and it was taken with near to wide open apertures.

I have Summarit-M 35 2.5 and Cron 50 v4 and this lens in the same league by the quality of the build, but I don't think it is matching Leica glass.

It just a fast enough lens which gets job done. Sharp enough and saturating enough. And it is large enough :).
