skinner Posted June 5, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 5, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Had a rare day with my old 50mm collapsable elmar. Too much PP or worthy of his character? Best Wishes Steve
Advertisement Posted June 5, 2012 Posted June 5, 2012 Hi skinner, Take a look here Street Artist. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
cocker Posted June 5, 2012 Share #2 Posted June 5, 2012 Steve - an extremely good portrait. I would ease back a little on the PP and let the picture and the subject speak for itself. But its also good the way it is.
Michael Hiles Posted June 5, 2012 Share #3 Posted June 5, 2012 I like this picture. A little too much PP, in my view. My view is that if you can see it, it is too much. And I would reduce the contrast a bit. I think there is too much "no detail at all" black, and the highlight on the beard shouldn't be blown out. I am sure your file has much more information. More than you asked for, I know.
jimofnyc Posted June 5, 2012 Share #4 Posted June 5, 2012 Wonderful portrait! The ring defined by the dark skin outlining his beard and the laces of his hat hold my eyes on his face... Looks OK on my notebook computer... Jim

robert_parker Posted June 6, 2012 Share #7 Posted June 6, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Great portrait - I've no problem with the PP
stuny Posted June 6, 2012 Share #8 Posted June 6, 2012 Steve - Basically excellent, but I agree with Michael re: over processing.
Iduna Posted June 6, 2012 Share #9 Posted June 6, 2012 Steve, an excellent portrait and very expressive. PP can e left as it is, but also for my taste a bit less might be worthwhile an attempt
Your Old Dog Posted June 6, 2012 Share #10 Posted June 6, 2012 Nicely done! Strong image. Would loose the halo around the body, a remnant of post processing. As another mentioned, I'd like to see some detail in the blacks, maybe some area lightening with SFx2?
skinner Posted June 6, 2012 Author Share #11 Posted June 6, 2012 Thanks all, halo's are a common problem for me, I do need to improve my PP technique. Kind regards Steve
jaapv Posted June 18, 2012 Share #12 Posted June 18, 2012 Excellent portrait. No- not too much PP imo, too little. I would make it even a bit grittier and then let a hint of color seep back in by overlaying a color layer. ( Maybe 15-20% opacity?) That halo will probably not be noticable in print. Mayby your resizing for web enhanced it ( it need not - resize with the crop tool)
oronet commander Posted June 18, 2012 Share #13 Posted June 18, 2012 I put myself with those who think that a little relaxation of the PP used would favour the otherwise excelent shot.
digbyhp Posted June 18, 2012 Share #14 Posted June 18, 2012 Just the blown highlights on the beard show up on my monitor. Everything else looks great, and personally I like halo. Thanks for the Elmar-M example!
