ymc226 Posted June 5, 2012 Share #1 Posted June 5, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) warning: I am not a computer person so some of my terminology may be wrong. I plan on taking many pictures on vacation (bringing my laptop which has LR4 installed and have access to high speed internet). I understand that Pogoplug provides a way to have access to your files at home but I want to download files into my Drobo while away via my laptop. I'd like to avoid bringing an extra external hard drive to back up photos. At home, I am using the Drobo FS which is on my home network as an independent device to back up my photos automatically when LR4 imports them from my memory card. Can I use Pogoplug in a similar fashion (when loaded on my laptop) to remotely download a back up to my home Drobo when I import into LR4? I would have high speed internet on both ends. melissah Posted June 5, 2012 Share #2 Posted June 5, 2012 if you are planning on uploading all you images you will need a strong wifi connection and a lot of time. i carry a lacie 1tb rugged. its small and not fragile. i realize you said you dont want to carry back up drives. your other option might be to have a lot of sd cards, transfer images to your computer for viewing and such and leave the images on the cards. theres a little tiny button on the side of the sd card and if you slide it the sd card is locked so you wont mistakenly re-use it. store those cards is a special place like you would have rolls of film. there are sd card "wallets" out there and some are made in the form of a hard case. sd cards are pretty cheap these days. i still use 4gb cards because i dont want to many images together in case of failure. 4gb are cheap, and hold about 80? images w raw/basic jpeg setting in the camera. others use much bigger cards but im not willing to take the chance. for me traveling is a carry on bag (on wheels) that has compartments. it has my leicas 5 lenses, all the chargers cords and extra cords, my laptop, and all of its cords chargers, camera cleaning set, back up drive (as discussed) ipad, front pocket that has documents and personals. it fits in overheard in the plane. i also never empty this bag. hope this is helpful. of course if youre backpacking with one lens then thats a different story.
