the shape of the scoop and the smoothness of the hood suggest first generation T-Bird, but there is no vertical piece in the middle -- Perhaps this is a customized scoop on the T-Bird?

Definitely a Buick show car, probably about 1955, and not F86, which was the name of the first small Olds that used the same aluminum V8 eventually licensed by Rover. I think I saw it at the GM Motorama, sharing some styling cues and chassis with the then current Corvette.

OK, you guys were hitting on all sides of it, but not quite. I guess I didn't give any strong clues though...

According to Wikipedia: Oldsmobile F88 (1954) - a concept car designed by Harley J. Earl. Out of four produced only one was not destroyed in the factory. The last one, styling order #2265 (which sold for $3 million at the 2005 Barrett-Jackson Auto Auction), was smuggled out of the factory in pieces, then rebuilt and either sold or given to E. L. Cord. The F88 was intended to be Oldsmobile's response to the Chevrolet Corvette, which was also designed by Harley Earl. GM terminated the project as it was a threat to its strong Corvette fanbase.

This car is in Gateway, Colorado, which is in the heart of canyon country, western Colorado. It is a totally random place to find something like this collection: Gateway Colorado Automobile Museum

Here's a good article on the car: Featured Article

I had no idea it was there, my wife and I came across it on our way home after a week-long trip. It was a nice surprise that really made our day.

...totally random place for a car museum...Here's the view from the parking lot:
