myshkine Posted September 22, 2012 Share #21 Posted September 22, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Congratulations for the photos. As far as LFI is concerned, my print subscription comes randomly. And the ipad app only gives me a discount when I already pay my paper issue. Not the best service IMO. And BTW when I want to read some serious stuff I revert to my collection of Leica Fotografie issues of the sixties and seventies.
Advertisement Posted September 22, 2012 Posted September 22, 2012 Hi myshkine, Take a look here LFI iPad app. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
hoppyman Posted September 23, 2012 Share #22 Posted September 23, 2012 I just downloaded the new version of the iPad app. I am a print subscriber but haven't received the newest issue in the mail as yet (I'm in Australia) In the new app it has back issues for purchase as far back as 2004. Up to the end of 2010 the price is only 99c an issue which is a great deal, I think. Last years are generally $1.99, most of this years only $2.99 and just one or two, including the newest are $5.99 ($5.49? I lost those prices once I verified my subscription). I hadn't quoted any subscriber numbers to obtain that pricing, however when I complete the verification with my subscription details ALL issues show as 99c. For comparison, a one year printed edition subscription posted to me here internationally cost me EUR 60 last time which is around USD 78 currently. Compared to paying the full price for current issues on iPad for non-subscribers which would work out at USD 48. That is a significant saving, partly due to the overseas postage costs I guess. IkarusJohn Posted September 23, 2012 Share #23 Posted September 23, 2012 I quite like getting the electronic version as soon as it's released, but the program is painfully slow. Not sure how it works, but once I've bought an issue of a magazine or newspaper (like The Economist or the NY Times) I expect it to be stored locally, so I can read it off line - and for it to load immediately, after I've downloaded it. I just turned the App on, selected the Magazine, and watched a rotating ball for 5 minutes. Dumped it in disgust. I don't get it. I've paid to read the magazine, why can't I have a copy stored locally on my iPad that loads instantaneously. Crap App.

It actually is stored locally, but for some unknown reasons, the app always tries to establish an online connection fist. This is really very annoying. But there is a workaround: Just switch your iPad into flight mode. Afterwards the app opens immediately and does show the stored content for reading offline. wattsy Posted September 23, 2012 Share #25 Posted September 23, 2012 It's a good looking app but seems to have some functional problems. I tried to buy the M Monochrom related back issue but after a short while it gave up with some odd error message. I decided not to waste more time. Guest WPalank Posted September 23, 2012 Share #26 Posted September 23, 2012 The thing I like about the app is it allows you to buy the special edition issues that are not sent to the doorstep. There are not too many places that carry the print form in the SF Bay Area. Case in point, there is a new Special Edition that has just become available "Leica Galleries". The newest edition 7/2012 has just become available as well electronically, although the print issue has not reached me. I especially like page 85.
