Advertisement Posted May 2, 2012 Posted May 2, 2012 Hi MPerson, Take a look here Boots UK to close 160 film mini-labs. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
wattsy Posted May 2, 2012 Share #2 Posted May 2, 2012 It's a pity because of the message it sends out but I'm not personally a fan of the shop - especially since it got taken over and relocated from its Nottingham roots.
delander † Posted May 2, 2012 Share #3 Posted May 2, 2012 It seems that Boots is yet another company paying the minimum UK tax. Jeff

earleygallery Posted May 2, 2012 Share #5 Posted May 2, 2012 Having had a couple of films absolutely trashed by a Boots Minilab I decided never to risk using them again. Good riddance!
wattsy Posted May 2, 2012 Share #6 Posted May 2, 2012 What does that have to do with closing mini-labs? Another reason not to shop there.

delander † Posted May 2, 2012 Share #8 Posted May 2, 2012 What does that have to do with closing mini-labs? Something I did not realise Andy, that's all, maybe off topic but that happens all the time in the forums, so I dont see the need to 'jump on me'. honcho Posted May 3, 2012 Share #9 Posted May 3, 2012 Welcome news until I read that there will still be 360 remaining Boots minilabs around after these closures.
andybarton Posted May 3, 2012 Share #10 Posted May 3, 2012 You don't have to use them if you don't want to. I'm struggling to understand why the retention of 360 minilabs would count as "unwelcome news".
honcho Posted May 3, 2012 Share #11 Posted May 3, 2012 You don't have to use them if you don't want to. I'm struggling to understand why the retention of 360 minilabs would count as "unwelcome news". Try using one and you might understand. When I lectured in photography I saw all too often my student's work ruined by incompetent Boots staff, despite my repeated advice not to use them. Whether I have the choice to use them or not is irrelevant. Nothing excuses incompetent or badly trained staff.
chris_livsey Posted May 3, 2012 Share #12 Posted May 3, 2012 You don't have to use them if you don't want to. I'm struggling to understand why the retention of 360 minilabs would count as "unwelcome news". I am open to correction but I can't see where it says 360 are left. They are closing 160, they have 520 stores but not all stores, by a long mark, have a mini-lab. this may be all the labs, or nearly all they have. Only The Sun is covering the story today so they have picked up an internal document as there is, as of now, no press release. Press releases
andybarton Posted May 3, 2012 Share #13 Posted May 3, 2012 I didn't read the linked article, of course , just responding to the poster above. I think that you must be correct, though.

biglouis Posted May 3, 2012 Share #15 Posted May 3, 2012 I too have unpleasant memories of using Boots. I think the very last time, which must have been in about 1989(!) I blythely used their '2-hour' service. When I returned after 2 hours, they said 'come back tomorrow'. When I good naturedly asked the next day if I could have a refund of the difference between the 2-hour service and the 24 hour service I was met with disbelief and rudeness that I would even ask such a thing. I learned my lesson and never used them again. LouisB
Paul Reading Posted May 3, 2012 Share #16 Posted May 3, 2012 I took a 120 roll film and went back in a week and was given the film back unprocessed. They had said that it had to be sent away but is was returned with a message that they no longer do roll film. A poor effort.
chris_livsey Posted May 4, 2012 Share #17 Posted May 4, 2012 It just occurs to me that 160 used mini labs coming on the market may mean making room in the garage for one

M9reno Posted May 7, 2012 Share #20 Posted May 7, 2012 Hopefully something better will rise, phoenix-like, from the ashes of the mini labs. Film will live on.
