Advertisement Posted April 26, 2012 Posted April 26, 2012 Hi ALD, Take a look here Installing Leica d lux 5 software onto Panasonic lx5. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Blindjock Posted April 26, 2012 Share #2 Posted April 26, 2012 Probably..... If you are a teenage hacker with a couple of weeks to spare. You just need to hack the D-Lux firmware using parts of the LX5 firmware so that when the motherboard checks the firmware matches the model ID (factory set), it doesn't block the firmware update. Q: Chances of making a mistake and creating a "brick"?...... A: Reasonable.

earleygallery Posted April 26, 2012 Share #4 Posted April 26, 2012 Is there a way of removing panasonics software from the lx5 and installing Leicas software? Why would you want to?
ALD Posted April 27, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted April 27, 2012 I was hoping you could normally buy the software somewhere or download it without hacking it illegally. I think the Panasonic menus are poor and their instruction manual is even worse.
Blindjock Posted April 27, 2012 Share #6 Posted April 27, 2012 Nothing illegal about modifying the publicly available firmware and attempting to upload to your own camera. Risky though and for little gain.
ho_co Posted April 27, 2012 Share #7 Posted April 27, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think the Panasonic menus are poor and their instruction manual is even worse. Remember, the D-Lux 5 menu is almost identical to that of the LX-5. And Leica just took the Panasonic manual with the D-Lux 4; I'm guessing they did the same in the LX-5. anupmc Posted April 27, 2012 Share #8 Posted April 27, 2012 Nothing illegal about modifying the publicly available firmware and attempting to upload to your own camera. Risky though and for little gain. ..Except it violates the licensing terms of that firmware in just about every jurisdiction around the world. "Nothing illegal'?... Only in the mind of one committing the license violation. There's a reason the D-Lux 5 cost more than the LX5. Either you pay it, or you don't. No in-between.
