mydarkroom Posted April 25, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 25, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Im going for a trip and need a 3rd battery. Could not get an original in time but Interstate Battery has one for Leica M8 (They say it is a 14464 replacement). I ordered it, but looking at the specs on the website, it says it is 7.2V and when I look the Leica Battery it reads 3.7V. I'm taking my batteries there to have it checked and compared, but not too keen on putting this Battery on my camera and frying it. Has anyone used this Battery from Interstate Batteries? Here is the link to the battery replacement: Photo Batteries Batteries - Leica/Wild Geb 14464 replacement battery Cheers Raf

jaapv Posted April 25, 2012 Share #2 Posted April 25, 2012 I would not take the risk.
mydarkroom Posted April 25, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted April 25, 2012 Thank you. I agree. I am hoping that the 3rd party battery is mislabeled on the website. I will make sure they test the voltage. Obviously if it is indeed 7.2V I won't buy it...
doubice Posted April 25, 2012 Share #4 Posted April 25, 2012 I am quite sure that the website specifications are incorrect - the battery is 3.7V. What I don't understand though is, why would you spend $60.00 on an aftermarket battery, if a genuine Leica one can be had for around $100.00? Check this eBay link: Leica M8 battery | eBay Many aftermarket batteries there, for much less than the one from Interstate. I would not be at all surprised if the Interstate batteries came from the same source...... I have used 2 DSTE batteries for over 2 years (about $15.00 each) with great success. There is a thread about the DSTE batteries - just search the forum for Leica Battery and you will find many opinions - both for and against aftermarket batteries. You can buy 4 DSTE batteries for the price of the Interstate one and they are most probably identical and made by the same manufacturer...... mydarkroom Posted April 25, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted April 25, 2012 Thank you Jan, Indeed, we checked the battery at Interstate and it was 3.7V. I checked the two original Leica I have and they were all the same. It was a typo. I see your point. The only reason I opted for this battery is that I am leaving for the trip this upcoming Friday and I live in a small town. All deliveries would take too long and I would probably not receive it before my departure date.I wanted to have a 3rd as a back up... cheers Rafael

mydarkroom Posted April 26, 2012 Author Share #7 Posted April 26, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) LOL!!!! Didn't realize you are from Vancouver until now! Our camera shop is actually pretty good (Lens and Shutter) but they no longer sell Leica. They even have a Fuji XPro1 with all lens on the display... take care Rafael Rafael, Kelowna is not that small anymore.... Best, Jan
jdlaing Posted April 30, 2012 Share #8 Posted April 30, 2012 In my case, and my personal feeling, is to use batteries from Leica in an eight thousand dollar camera. $129.00 is chump change with that kind of equipment.
