Perceval Posted April 18, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted April 18, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a third version 35mm Summicron. A friend has the fourth version; on comparing them, it seems that the third version is more robust. Perhaps this is just because different materials are used? I expect they are equally reliable, mechanically, but the "heft" is different and the aperture detents on V4 seem less positive.
Advertisement Posted April 18, 2012 Posted April 18, 2012 Hi Perceval, Take a look here 35mm Summicron types. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
luigi bertolotti Posted April 18, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted April 18, 2012 Materials ought to be not dissimilar (and weight is about the same) , but ver. IV is a very different assembly and seems that is more easy to be dismounted in two parts (there are threads about, in the forum) : but imho this doesn't mean it is by definition less robust. But I haven't it so cannot judge by direct experience.
}{B Posted April 18, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted April 18, 2012 I've used the same silver MKIV 35mm Summicron, which I bought new, for nearly twenty years with no problems. Of course I've used it rather than abused it.
wizard Posted April 18, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted April 18, 2012 I have never had any issues with my version IV, too. Of course, there a people grabbing the lens at its hood to mount and dismount the lens. That you should not do with any lens. Â Andy
