Annibale G. Posted April 17, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 17, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi guys, can you help me how the section buy and sell work out? I can't find either a link. I'd like also to put the post in that section. All the best. A.
Advertisement Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Hi Annibale G., Take a look here Buy and Sell. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jdlaing Posted April 17, 2012 Share #2 Posted April 17, 2012 If you look at the top of the page you will see some tabs. Click on the tab that says Buy & Sell.
andybarton Posted April 17, 2012 Share #3 Posted April 17, 2012 You cannot post normal posts in the Buy and Sell section, but you can advertise the thing you want to sell there. As James says, click on the Tab at the top of every page and follow the instructions http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/market/login.php?goto=usercheckout.php
Annibale G. Posted April 19, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted April 19, 2012 Tough luck I've discovered I have to pay for it, mah... Do you think will be useful? A.
andybarton Posted April 19, 2012 Share #5 Posted April 19, 2012 Tough luck you have to pay for what? The advert? Have you looked at the costs of advertising on eBay recently? Here, for five euros or so, you get to target a specific, interested audience and sell anything from a filter to a £7000 Noctilux. And you are supporting the running of the forum, which relies on sponsorship and advertising revenues for its very existence.
Falstaff Posted April 19, 2012 Share #6 Posted April 19, 2012 Tough luck I've discovered I have to pay for it, mah...Do you think will be useful? A. Given the help people give each other on this forum, it might have been more considerate not to say anything - and not put it up for sale here. stussy2k Posted April 19, 2012 Share #7 Posted April 19, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tough luck I've discovered I have to pay for it, mah...Do you think will be useful? A. EUR5 is nothing. If you wan't to place an ad on eBay be aware that they will charge you an ad insertion fee (additional fees for pictures) and final value fee (7-9% of total cost). On top of that you'll be charged a paypal fee (as a seller) too (I believe it's 3-4%, and another 3-4% if you wan't to withdraw to your own bank account). Also if you have just registered on eBay and have received no substantial feedback as seller you're limited to sell for a total of USD500 per month. IWC Doppel Posted April 23, 2012 Share #8 Posted April 23, 2012 I have sold lenses on this forum and whilst the headline price might be less than on ebay, it's far cheaper than dealing with selling fees and bl****y PayPal. I'd rather sell for £75 less and not deal with e-bay and end up with everyone apart from e-bay happy I have bought 3 lens from this forum and sold
bpalme Posted April 23, 2012 Share #9 Posted April 23, 2012 I think the better argument is simply that you are supporting the site since there are completely free places to sell.
gdrank Posted April 23, 2012 Share #10 Posted April 23, 2012 Hi all, I'm also new to the forum and want to buy items from the clasified section. I haven't ever purchased anything from a private seller online. What are the risks in buying something from the clasifieds, to be dhl-ed to you (none seem to be close to my location...) I mean, appart from getting an item that may be not as "mint" as you expected.. In case the seller asks for wiring the money and then dissapears...? Are there any preucations in place to avoid that? Is paypall the safest solution? (haven't ever tried that too...) Thanks a lot! G.
IWC Doppel Posted April 23, 2012 Share #11 Posted April 23, 2012 I think the best way of buying is to get comfortable with the seller, Do his/her posts support the sale (I would be nervous of a recently joined with few posts) Ask for detailed pictures to show any marks via e-mail Have a conversation or two If you have got comfortable then buy, don't if your not. I have bought from overseas and tracked the item across the water after making a bank transfer, it has some risk, but if you correspond, check serial numbers and do your due dilligence the risk is limited
bpalme Posted April 23, 2012 Share #12 Posted April 23, 2012 Use PayPal. Be careful selling stuff. Theives can say they did not receive the item and guess who loses that battle in some cases? You , if you didn't pay for the signature confirmation. Get insurance too. Don't use PayPal gift unless you know them.
gdrank Posted April 23, 2012 Share #13 Posted April 23, 2012 Thanks Dopel, bpalme. Bpalme, didn’t think of it the other way round. Yes I assume the seller however has ways to eliminate risk, as you mentioned “signature confirmation” (although I have no idea what it is…), insurance. My question was for the buyer’s safety – the one that sends the money in the first place. I understand paypall is as safe as it gets. For bank trasfers as Dopel notes, its getting to know the guy and see from there…
Annibale G. Posted April 24, 2012 Author Share #14 Posted April 24, 2012 finally I used it, I will ask if I need some advice. What you've written give me some ideas. A.

I too would hesitate to buy from someone who has just registered to sell something, although the fact that they have to pay for their advert is generally a sign that it is a genuine sale - the scammers on ebay highjack other peoples accounts so they never pay a thing. Of course the risk of getting something that isn't as good as you expect is another matter, but that's a case of asking the right questions and or looking at photos carefully.
