Addy444 Posted April 16, 2012 Share #1 Posted April 16, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Big choice ahead -- --- I have the offer of a Lumix L1 ( with that superb Leica lens) or a Panasonic LC1 ( with that superb Leica lens ) Both the same price to me--any thoughts? The only thing that might sway me towards the L1 is the fact the lens is stabilised --and as I'm getting shaky -it might help? Thanks
Advertisement Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 Hi Addy444, Take a look here Advice please !. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Blindjock Posted April 16, 2012 Share #2 Posted April 16, 2012 Make sure the LC1 has had a new sensor at some point.
earleygallery Posted April 16, 2012 Share #3 Posted April 16, 2012 Depending on price I would personally look at other alternatives. Both are old cameras. The L1 is a 4/3rds sensor camera yet manages to be as bulky as a FF DSLR, quite remarkable! The Digilux 2 / LC1 is a cult camera and would be my choice of the two, but I'd probably choose a Nikon or Canon DSLR instead of either. It really depends what you want to do with the camera. Addy444 Posted April 16, 2012 Author Share #4 Posted April 16, 2012 Thanks -the LC1 has had a new sensor --I'm not worried about size just after that "Leica" look and the best quality from one of the two cameras -don't want a DSLR ( been there ) -now looking for a nice old fashioned Leica Lens camera -can't afford the Leica Digilux 2 or 3 so thought one of these 2 equivalent Lumix/Panasonic cameras might do the job. I appreciate they are not the same as the real Leicas but I'm sure I will more than happy with the photos these 2 cameras can produce with the right settings --finding it hard to decide which one ! -- --so don't say buy both !!!! I have a couple of days to decide before the seller gets rid of them on the bay.

Thanks For the same amount of money I'd rather buy one oft the 2011 and meanwhile inexpensive mft bodies with the new Panasonic-Leica (Summilux) 25mm f1.4. A much better package with a stellar lens and at least as much Leica in it as compared to a L1 or LC1 or their Leica siblings. The mft body you will be able to upgrade in a few years, and the lens will continue to deliver.
earleygallery Posted April 18, 2012 Share #7 Posted April 18, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I appreciate they are not the same as the real Leicas but I'm sure I will more than happy with the photos these 2 cameras can produce The Panasonic cameras are identical to the Leica versions apart from minor design tweaks. The extra cost new for the Leica is due to software/warranty (usually better software/longer warranty) and their cost base/overheads. They are all made on the same Panasonic production line. Addy444 Posted April 19, 2012 Author Share #10 Posted April 19, 2012 Thank you all for your helpful replies --I have bought the LC1 -amazing Lens and very quiet.--- I guessed the old "chestnut" would come out when people start comparing the Leica vers the Panasonic ! For the record -I have had a Digilux 2 and now have the Pany version -and I can see no difference between the jpegs -admittedly I am getting old now and my eyesight is not as good as it was. At the end of the day -as most, if not all of us would agree with -its the person behind the camera that matters. Thanks for all the valuable help -much appreciated I'vve attached a picy of the cat taken with the LC1 Welcome, dear visitor! Addy444 Posted April 22, 2012 Author Share #14 Posted April 22, 2012 I cannot post comparison pictures taken with the digilux 2 and the Panasonic LC1 as I sold the Digilux (foolishly) about a year ago --but looking at the photos I have taken on both cameras I can see no discernable difference between them -I rarely take raw files but tend to use the jpeg photos straight out of the cameras without any manipulating at all in computer software -so I am comparing like for like. Agreed I am getting older and my eyesight is not as good as it used to be but the LC1 to me appears to have that same magical film like quality that Leica owners rave about -and that same handling and quality build. I've attached 2 pictures from the LC1 taken a couple of days ago. Welcome, dear visitor! Well, only if the cameras' jpeg settings for saturation, contrast, sharpness, and white balance were the same. Pete.
Blindjock Posted April 22, 2012 Share #16 Posted April 22, 2012 It's probably been covered before but what is collective recommendation for the image settings (contrast, sharpness and saturation). Got them all on standard at the moment.

Addy444 Posted April 27, 2012 Author Share #20 Posted April 27, 2012 Wow -what a super photo from Blindjock --check out the tulips in the photo attached -straight from the jpeg in the LC1 camera -seems to have that film-like quality.
