Einst_Stein Posted April 16, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted April 16, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Leica M is proud of its minimalist looking. I found some lenses should be avoided along this line. Â 135mm Elmar, the old 1965 version is one. It has a nice , elegant looking, small but relatively long compared to its diameter. It definitely sounds screaming. I had this lens on my camera in a mall, which I was there very often and never had problems, just in 15 min. the security came to me asking me to delete all my pictures in the camera. I hadn't really taken anything yet. Â I'd never had such problems before, even when I carried a DSLR and a fancy lens with the brand name saying "Do I look like a professional". I wasn't sure it's the camera or the lens. I tied another day again but with 50mm, it's OK. Â I guess, they probably don't like tele-lenses. The Tele-Elmar or any other lenses that doesn't looks like a tele-lens might be OK.

pop Posted April 16, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted April 16, 2012 It definitely sounds screaming ... Â Yes; a lens I wanted to buy also screamed or, rather, squeaked a lot. It also took a lot of torque to focus. The dealer sent it in for a lubrication and it has never even whispered since then.
lct Posted April 16, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted April 16, 2012 It is just 13mm taller than the next Tele-Elmar 135/4 to be fair but it is also 110g lighter. Has always been my favorite 135 for travels when i used film. http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-wiki.en/index.php/Elmar_1:4_/_135mm
luigi bertolotti Posted April 16, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted April 16, 2012 Imho, security people have something against CHROME teles... next time, try to go to the same mall with this : Not so minimalist... but at least is black and less sparkling than the (nice) Elmar 135... M9reno Posted April 16, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted April 16, 2012 Just avoid walking into a mall (or a bank) carrying a New York Leica RIFLE, and you'll be fine.
earleygallery Posted April 16, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted April 16, 2012 Just avoid Malls, they're dreadfully dull places.
swamiji Posted April 16, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted April 16, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) The question you should be asking is not why you were stopped, but why were you able to get away with it at all. In most malls in America, you are not allowed to take pictures. It's private property, and they have the right to stop you. Â It depends on the security people on duty to enforce or not. Just luck of the draw...
