Hello:

I have D-lux4 and they sell to me a X1 for 850 Euros, with 1000 photos.

Is it a good purchase? ..

is it better X100?

X1 at €850 is an OK price without being incredible. I would either negotiate down a little or ask them make you a price with the viewfinder, which is essential in my view. The correct used price for an X1 including a viewfinder is about €1050. The grip is also nice to use, which can be found as a used item for around €75-80.

 

It has to be boxed with the original warranty card and ideally original receipt, which will enable you to re-register with Leica and possibly obtain a free Lightroom 3 download.

 

There is a long thread on X1 v x100. the short of it is that most people here think it's better than the X100, but go to a X100 Board, and no doubt you'll get a different balance. I have bought both, sold the x100, kept the X1. The lens is superior without question, and although x100 may argue the point, the facts are it is better.

 

This analysis of the lens characteristics is way deeper than anything else carried out and shows a really high quality optic without any noticeable in-camera processing to compensate for design compromises.
