jrovner Posted April 9, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted April 9, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I routinely set my M9 to shoot raw + JPG, so I can see a black and white preview of my shots while I'm out shooting. I then discard the JPGs during processing. Â Lately I've found that when I import into Lightroom, I have both raw and JPG versions of the first several images, but only raw files of the rest. In other words, at some point, the M9 begins recording only raw files, yet continues to show me the black and white preview of ALL shots. Â This really isn't a problem for me. In fact, getting the black and white preview without the hassle of discarding a bunch of JPG files during the import process is sort of the best of both worlds. But the camera isn't functioning as it should, which is worrisome. Has anyone else encountered this?
Advertisement Posted April 9, 2012 Posted April 9, 2012 Hi jrovner, Take a look here Problem with raw + JPG setting. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
jaapv Posted April 9, 2012 Share #2 Â Posted April 9, 2012 More likely that it has to do with the import of your images in the computer.
jrovner Posted April 9, 2012 Author Share #3 Â Posted April 9, 2012 Jaap, I've just confirmed your theory. When I view the SD card's files in the Mac's Finder, rather than in Lightroom, all the JPGs are there. I think this problem began when I upgraded to Lightroom 4. I can't imagine a LR setting that would cause some, but not all, of the JPGs to come in during import, but I'll investigate further. Â It's a relief to know the problem isn't with the M9. Thanks! stunsworth Posted April 9, 2012 Share #4 Â Posted April 9, 2012 There's an import setting that controls whether the Jpegs are seen as separate files or not.
jrovner Posted April 9, 2012 Author Share #5 Â Posted April 9, 2012 Thanks, Steve. I have my preference set to "Treat JPEG files next to raw files as separate photos." In any event, Lightroom imports some, but not all, of the JPGs. Weird.
algrove Posted April 9, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted April 9, 2012 Jeff kindly keep us informed since I was planning on upgrading soon and will not until I know all is OK with LR4. Thanks.
firstlight Posted April 9, 2012 Share #7 Â Posted April 9, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) A little bit off-topic but: I just downgraded again to LR3, I wasn't able to work with LR4 as the performance was really really bad, and I mean bad like waiting several seconds (5-10) everytime I just change any setting in the development mode, the whole application was kind of freezing. Â In LR3 it fells just perfect, and my machine isn't that bad: Â AMD Phenom II X4 8 GB RAM SSD Â LR4 is on ice ..at least until LR 4.1.. Â cheers
01af Posted April 9, 2012 Share #8 Â Posted April 9, 2012 Lr 4 is on ice ... at least until Lr 4.1. Lr 4.1 RC is already there. See Adobe Labs.
algrove Posted April 10, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted April 10, 2012 Lr 4.1 RC is already there. See Adobe Labs. Â So is LR4.1 free of bugs?
StephenPatterson Posted April 10, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted April 10, 2012 So is LR4.1 free of bugs? Â No, but the bugs are different. The "edit in" now works for NIK plug-ins like Silver Efex, but it's still beta software and I've had it crash once (very rare on the Mac) and have found that sometimes features or buttons will not work at certain times. All part of the beta software experience. Â Slightly off topic but MY biggest problem with raw + JPG on the M9 is speed. For me it's just tooooo slow writing to the card and clearing the buffer. DNG only is much faster.

For me, the only possible excuse to use Lightroom over Aperture was the speed difference . . now Lightroom4 is even slower than Aperture!
stussy2k Posted April 10, 2012 Share #12 Â Posted April 10, 2012 Lr 4.1 RC is already there. See Adobe Labs. Â LR4.1RC is still a pretty bad performer on my MacBook Air. I've decided to wait too for better tuned LR4, or the new MacBook Pro series (this summer). Whichever comes first
firstlight Posted April 11, 2012 Share #13 Â Posted April 11, 2012 LR4.1RC is still a pretty bad performer.. Â Yeah I definitely wait for LR5 or so...As I will get this in the bundle with an M10
