Leica Ballhead thread adapter problem

Recommended Posts

This maybe a newbie question, so apologies in advance:

I bought a second hand Leica Tabletop Tripod with the Leitz ballhead (the older model), like the one on this site: A Bag, Strap, & Tripod | Adam Marelli Photo

On top, where the camera goes, mine seems to have some sort of thread adapter that converts the tripod screw into a somewhat wider screw that older cameras used. Since I want to use it for my M8 I'm trying to remove this adapter but seem to be unable to do so - I've tried unscrewing the small screw on the side (I thought maybe that somehow held it in place) and tried it with pliers but to no avail.

I would be most grateful for any hints!

That is actually a very clever setup. The wide (3/8") pushes down to become the smaller 1/4" mount.

Try that before you mangle the thread.

Wow, that is clever design!! Thank you very much for pointing it out - apparently it was too clever for me!

Me too. I learned the hard way.

I bought mine 'used' some years ago and it has the red dot Leica symbol. The screw is the standard 1/4" fixed. It really is a super accessory, specially valuable when travelling and more versatile than many presume.
