dkCambridgeshire Posted April 3, 2012 Share #1  Posted April 3, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) 'PRAYING'  Another experiment using the Lastolite Cubelite and Leica X1 . The bronze bust on granite plinth is approx. 35cm high and 23cm wide; artist unknown; plinth is not contemporary with the bronze. Focus was right on the limit of the X1 macro mode ... I hope the rumoured X2 will have a much improved macro focus. The 'apparatus photo' illustrates the lighting method and the incident light meter used ... the black card was hand held to kill reflections on both the bronze and the plinth ... a longer focal length lens would probably lessen reflections but the whole object of the exercise was to use the X1 with its 36mm FF equivalent focal length for a close-up exercise. Exposure was 1/2sec. @f10 , ISO 100  PRAYING by s4sargent, on Flickr  Untitled by s4sargent, on Flickr  Lastolite Cubelite was placed opposite my lounge window providing daylight illumination from RHS through the translucent cube. The silver reflector on the LHS throws some light back onto the LHS of the bronze and further lessens shadows. If used with artificial light ie continuous or flash lighting on each side and the top of the Cubelite, then no reflector would be required. I much prefer continuous light to flash because it is WYSIWYG ... most of the time. Also, continuous lighting usually requires a tripod - which not only steadies the camera but also makes for more careful composition - because it slows down same and makes me look more carefully into the monitor. This is an uncropped JPEG image with very little post processing.  Best wishes  dunk
