Leica Digilux 2 LCD controller died?

Today my Leica's Digilux 2 LCD screen stopped working. Now when I turn the LCD on, it shows some white / grey random noise. I see that noise changes shape when I make changes in menu or try to watch images, but that's all it shows - just some noise. Although electronic viewfinder (EVF) works just fine, the camera takes pictures, and I can configure menu or see the images in it.

Any suggestions what should I do with it? I got the camera 3 months ago with just 2300 actuations... :(

Sounds like one of the forms of the known sensor failure that Leica has undertaken to repair at its own cost. My advice is to ring Solms; if you email or write you might have to wait some time for a reply.:(

If you get a live image in the EVF then the CCD must be working, I would think.

I wondered if the LCD backlight was faulty but if you get a noisy picture then the backlight is working too.

Ah, missed the comment about working okay on the EVF.

I got the reply from Solms, they suggest to send it to them for inspection and repairs - they don't know what's wrong, so it's quite an unusual problem.

You can shoot with it, use it perfectly using only evf - review images, customize menu, shoot, but when main lcd used, it shows something like white noise, with several small short blue lines on it.

Not sure what should I do with it - could be costly repair, including sending to Germany...

That is a dilemma with a glimmer of hope. Clearly Leica are interested in the unusual fault so they may offer an affordable solution. Alternatively you can still use the camera. So, only if the loss of the LCD seriously hampers your use of the camera, and you wish to retain it for some time, might it be worth going along with the Leica suggestion.
