ramus_ltu Posted April 1, 2012 Share #1 Â Posted April 1, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) Today my Leica's Digilux 2 LCD screen stopped working. Now when I turn the LCD on, it shows some white / grey random noise. I see that noise changes shape when I make changes in menu or try to watch images, but that's all it shows - just some noise. Although electronic viewfinder (EVF) works just fine, the camera takes pictures, and I can configure menu or see the images in it. Â Any suggestions what should I do with it? I got the camera 3 months ago with just 2300 actuations...

Blindjock Posted April 2, 2012 Share #3 Â Posted April 2, 2012 Might be the LCD or the ribbon cable but probably the main motherboard PCB.
ramus_ltu Posted April 2, 2012 Author Share #4 Â Posted April 2, 2012 Wrote to customer support in Solms, will see what they suggest.
farnz Posted April 3, 2012 Share #5 Â Posted April 3, 2012 Sounds like one of the forms of the known sensor failure that Leica has undertaken to repair at its own cost. My advice is to ring Solms; if you email or write you might have to wait some time for a reply. Â Pete.
Blindjock Posted April 3, 2012 Share #6 Â Posted April 3, 2012 If you get a live image in the EVF then the CCD must be working, I would think. Â I wondered if the LCD backlight was faulty but if you get a noisy picture then the backlight is working too.

Ah, missed the comment about working okay on the EVF.  Pete.
ramus_ltu Posted April 4, 2012 Author Share #8 Â Posted April 4, 2012 I got the reply from Solms, they suggest to send it to them for inspection and repairs - they don't know what's wrong, so it's quite an unusual problem. Â You can shoot with it, use it perfectly using only evf - review images, customize menu, shoot, but when main lcd used, it shows something like white noise, with several small short blue lines on it. Â Not sure what should I do with it - could be costly repair, including sending to Germany...
wda Posted April 4, 2012 Share #9 Â Posted April 4, 2012 That is a dilemma with a glimmer of hope. Clearly Leica are interested in the unusual fault so they may offer an affordable solution. Alternatively you can still use the camera. So, only if the loss of the LCD seriously hampers your use of the camera, and you wish to retain it for some time, might it be worth going along with the Leica suggestion. Blindjock Posted April 4, 2012 Share #10 Â Posted April 4, 2012 I take it they do fixed price quotes? Worth paying for, I would think.
krabat Posted April 10, 2012 Share #11 Â Posted April 10, 2012 It is the first time I hear about such a problem with the Digilux 2. I wish you good luck that the customer service will fix it!
