michali Posted March 18, 2012 Share #1 Posted March 18, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I upgraded to LR4 today. When trying to use the Silver Efex Pro2 plug-in nothing happens. BYTW the plug-in has been imported into LR4, I can see it in "preferences" and the drop down menu. I went onto the Nik Software website and they acknowledge that there is a problem: Nik Software, Inc. | Support The Nik website then refers me to the Adobe website for resolution of the issue: Edit In Photoshop command missing | Photoshop Lightroom I followed the instructions from Adobe, nothing doing. I'm running LR4 on both my Macbook Pro (OS X Lion) and on my iMac (OS X Leopard). The problem exists on both computers, so it's clearly an LR4 bug. I also have Aperture & PSE 9 on both machines with the Silver Efex Pro2 plug-in, no issues with these two programs. Has anyone else encountered this yet? michali Posted March 18, 2012 Author Share #3 Posted March 18, 2012 Thank you Jeff! Adobe knows about this bug, why don't they warn you in some way? Instead they take your money and then leave you to spend hours trying to figure it out for yourself.
Jeff S Posted March 18, 2012 Share #4 Posted March 18, 2012 That's why they maintain this interactive site. Even after beta tests, users inevitably report issues. If you search or scan the recent threads in this forum, you'll see that others here already noted the issues and provided this same link. I don't even use plug-ins, but was aware of these issues because of these communications. FWIW, I usually am not an early adopter of any new product or technology, as bugs inevitably need to worked out. That's one reason why I got an M8.2, not an M8. (Even the M9 has gone through its teething issues, as widely discussed here. Leica provided info much like Adobe did in response to reported issues.) That's also why I got the second iteration of LR2, not the first. And that's why I'm holding off a bit on LR4, still happy in the meantime with LR 3.6. But that's just me; I'm happy to let others explore new ground. Jeff
michali Posted March 18, 2012 Author Share #5 Posted March 18, 2012 Jeff- In principle I agree with you about being an early adopter of products. I've learnt the hard way with some very expensive lessons at various stages in my life as a result. It was a gray rainy day today and I was bored and I set about upgrading various software and filing images etc. Thankfully I didn't delete LR3.6 which still works perfectly for now. Jeff S Posted March 18, 2012 Share #6 Posted March 18, 2012 Good move. Side benefit though, now that you've got LR4, might be to explore its capabilities without Efex and see where that leads. Jeff
Guest WPalank Posted March 18, 2012 Share #7 Posted March 18, 2012 Advertisement (gone after registration) I f I remember correctly, on one of the Forums, a majority of the non-working external editors are with people that don't have CS5. LR4 evidently does a system check (probably the wrong terminology but you should catch my drift) and if it can't find CS5, mucks everything up. Even CS5 Extended gets the problem. swamiji Posted March 19, 2012 Share #8 Posted March 19, 2012 I downloaded the trial version of just Photoshop CS5 (and supporting apps), and it fixed the problem. MacBook Pro 13 MacOX 10.7.3, but as they say YMMV.
michali Posted March 20, 2012 Author Share #9 Posted March 20, 2012 Tried the temporary fix, i.e. downloaded a trial version of CS5, I didn't even have to open it. I then opened LR4 and Silver Efex works straight away! As always this Forum is a gold mine of knowledge and information. Thank you gentlemen for your assistance, input and feedback!
