90mm Summicron question

My 90 APO-ASPH focuses PERFECT on my M9. I use 1.4x

I'm confused now.:o Did you mean with your R9? If you're somehow using a 1.4x APO (with a 14127 R to M convertor) and 90AA with an M9 then it won't be rangefinder coupled so you'd have to be zone focussing and your comment that it "focuses PERFECT" doesn't make any sense.

I think eukrania means the 1.4x magnifier for the viewfinder eyepiece - recommended for longer lenses. There is no problem to see the whole frame of 90mm with this magnifier - you can use it comfortably with 50mm.

In my experience the 2/90mm AA is much easier to focus than the 2/75AA - because of it's longer focus throw. It's astonishing how much the focus throw matters. When I had a weak moment and acquired a Summarex I thought: "You are a fool, as you'll never be able to use it at f/1.5 !" When i tried it was no problem - as the focus throw of this lens is extremely long so you can be precise much easier than with lenses like the 75mm Summicron.

<slaps forehead> Yes, of course he must.:o Thanks, Uli.

I used to use the Leica 1.25x magnifier with my 90 APO asph but I eventually found that the higher contrast in the viewfinder without it made focussing easier so I stopped using it.
