andit Posted February 20, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 20, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi Guys, Â There are very few postings about the 90mm f/4.0 Elmar lens plus Macro Adaptor used on an M8 on this forum. Does anyone here make use of this combo, if so what are your thoughts about this lens. I realise that the maximum magnification is 1:3, which is fine for me. I just want to find out how this lens does (in macro mode and when used as a standard 90mm). Â Andreas
roubaix Posted February 20, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 20, 2007 I love it. I have not used it as a Macro yet, but as a 90 tele it is great. Not fast, but for me it's compactness was key. For my current arsenal I have a 35 Cron and the 90 Elmar which together are versatile and a very small package. Would like a 24 as well but we'll see. Not much objective data I can give you since I'm a Leica beginner, but I am just amazed at how versatile such a compact lens can be. Â My 1.5 cents, Â Peter
joern Posted February 20, 2007 Share #3  Posted February 20, 2007 I have tried it. It is a very good combo. But for close up i prefer the old Visoflex III system with the bellows wich offer much more possibilities with the lens choice (enlarger lenses/Telyt/Luminar) and it is easier to focus at least for me because i wear glasses.  If you don´t need f2 or f2.8 and looking for a 90 mm lens then the Macro Elmar is a perfect solution. Light, razor sharp and very versatile with the adapter as Peter mentioned above.  Leica claims that this lens performs similar to the R 100 Makro. I never used the R 100 but the M 4/90 Macro is excellent.  jørn
