waterlenz Posted February 21, 2007 Share #41 Â Posted February 21, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Tom ....why does the first shot show a huge vertical band of sunlight at 6 o'clockand on the second shot at 3 o'clock from the SUN...? Â This shows that the streak was due to the camera and not the lens since it is consistently oriented with respect to the former. Tom
Advertisement Posted February 21, 2007 Posted February 21, 2007 Hi waterlenz, Take a look here M8 and IR filter -dismal failure. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
waterlenz Posted February 21, 2007 Share #42 Â Posted February 21, 2007 This is funny tread! Before was M8 many Leica guys stand in village platz and sing with big voice how is against to God put any filter on front of Leica objectif. After comes M8 is same song with same big voice only change lyric to exactly opposing :D Â All time was use filters by fotographer. What is differents M8? I tell: before was use filter only for make affection what fotographer chose. With M8 mast to use filter fix up what camera make bat. Is default of camera, nothing is change about filter. Filter is filter like always. Why today need proof filter does not make flare if yesterday doesn't need proof? Â Just do not shoot into the sun or bright light source! Recall the old rule of keeping the sun behind you when taking a pic. It is a matter of where the IR fltration should be placed. Less damage to the image if it is in front of the lens instead a thicker one in front of the image plane. Tom
waterlenz Posted February 21, 2007 Share #43 Â Posted February 21, 2007 Digital camera does not need to any filter for correct light. Becaus digital camera got WB (mabe M8 WB not so good, still it has). Â Actually folks are having quite a success using light-balancing filters underwater and dSLRs - lots on this in the 'wetpixel' site. Tom
waterlenz Posted February 21, 2007 Share #44 Â Posted February 21, 2007 Only why M8 does need it IR filter front every lens becaus Leica does not test enough M8 before to sale. They DELIBERATELY chose to use a thin IR filter in front of the sensor to preserve lens sharpness given the short back focal distance. Tom
waterlenz Posted February 21, 2007 Share #45  Posted February 21, 2007 That is sensor blooming (the rectangular white area) from photon overload on the sensor, as far as I know. This is not M8 specific; I have shots from my Hassi 503cw with a Leaf Digital Back (17 megapixel) with exactly the same phenomenon sometimes.  Peter  This is substantiated by my two exposures example in post #40. Guest magyarman Posted February 21, 2007 Share #48  Posted February 21, 2007 This mabe truth. M8 remind me story of fishman try to sell boat what got hole. First he put rug on top hole so costumor cant to find. Of course when is go away to sea this boat was sinked and fishman mast to gave back money. After bring it up this boat from bottem of sea he again try sell, oba this time he got much smarter. He tell costumor how is only small hole, oba becaus he care about costumor, he gift him for free bohrer. He tell if is lot of water come in boat, you gonna bohr it another hole so water can take away  (This was old joke about communism government. Many times was make by government some decision same stupith like need IR filters put on every lens. Nobody can to make seriust complain except he want sit in the prison some years, so have many joke like this what is people understand meaning oba police cant to tell is against to government).  I tell another what is also remind of M8. Soyuz president listen radio what USA put man on the moon. Right away he call up director cosmonautic departament, he tell <<how you let it Americans put man on moon! You mast to do something ora you go to the prison!>> Director very scare, he tell <<next week we will put man on the sun!>> President tell <<what you think, I stupith? How you can put man on the sun except he bren up?>> Director tell <<Soyuz government most smartest! We gonna send him in night time.>>
lct Posted February 21, 2007 Share #49 Â Posted February 21, 2007 Ha ha! Funny stories Ferenc. Now there is at least a difference with Leica in that customers are aware of those IR issues by geat forums like this so if they decide to buy and keep the M8 it's up to them isn't it. So why do you repeat your point so often?
