wilfredo Posted February 19, 2007 Share #1 Â Posted February 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) Up until now I've only been shooting using a compactflash card for my Canon. After shooting I would transfer the files to a CD using the EZ Digimatic. Now that I have the M8 I'm wondering what are the better gadgets out there to transfer the files from the SD card to a CD in order to keep using the card? My EZ Digimatic only works with compactflash cards. Â Thanks, Wilfredo+ Benitez-Rivera Photography

mwilliamsphotography Posted February 19, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 19, 2007 Do you work on the images off the CDs? Or do you copy them to your desktop and then work on them? The reason I ask is that CDs are way slower to work from ... as are CF or SDs. Â I time code all my cameras and dump all cards into one desktop file using 4 Lexar daisy chained readers at the same time (4 cards at once, not one at a time). Then burn the back-up DVD before reformating the cards. A whole wedding is on my desktop in 10 minutes. Â Multiple USB2 SD readers can also be used to load an entire shoot at once. wilfredo Posted February 19, 2007 Author Share #5 Â Posted February 19, 2007 Bill and Jacques, Â I was wondering if such a device existed. I'll go out an buy one. Thanks. Â Mark, Â I don't do the volume shooting that you do, so what I do is just transfer the shots to a CD so I can delete the files from the flash card and then keep shooting. I later choose from the transferred pictures on the CD which one's I want to post process "the keepers." However, your work flow sounds very efficient. Where can I get more info the Lexar Daisy Chain readers? You can probably tell I'm not a techno whiz but I appreciate all the tips I pick up here on the forum, it's a never ending process :-) Â Thanks, Wilfredo+
wparsonsgisnet Posted February 19, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted February 19, 2007 Wilfredo, the prices of hi-speed SD cards have dropped like a rock. They are so cheap, at under $40 for 2GB, that you could afford the ease-of-mind and backup that multiple cards would provide. Â I use a Ridata 150x 2GB SDcard that costs about $36. I have several of these and have had good experience with them, as have other posters.
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 19, 2007 Share #7 Â Posted February 19, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I agree with Bill here just get some 4gb Transcends for 49 dollars and a litle SD card case and shoot till the cows come home. i have 4 4gb and 8 2gb cards . i shoot anymore than this i will triple my day rate on a client. ROTFLMAO Â The cards have really gotten so cheap to buy now, it really is scary when just a few years ago maybe not even that long 280 dollars for a 1gb card . Yes never seen them this cheap
wilfredo Posted February 19, 2007 Author Share #8 Â Posted February 19, 2007 I think I will go ahead and purchase some SD cards since I need at least one extra card but I would still like to get the adapter. Any suggestions on where to purchase one of these gadgets? This is proving to be quite a task. Samys Camera here in California doesn't carry them. pemayeux Posted February 19, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted February 19, 2007 I picked mine up at Best Buy. I think Circuit City has them too. I'm shocked at the price of those cards. I bought a 2GB Extreme III SD card for the M8 back in January and it was $120 at Circuit City.
4season Posted February 19, 2007 Share #10 Â Posted February 19, 2007 I use a Jobo 17-in-1 compact flash adapter, but Jobo also offers a smaller adapter that does SD only. Â Memory Card Adapters
4season Posted February 19, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted February 19, 2007 I picked mine up at Best Buy. I think Circuit City has them too. I'm shocked at the price of those cards. I bought a 2GB Extreme III SD card for the M8 back in January and it was $120 at Circuit City. Â I don't know about Extreme III cards, but I do know that 2GB, 150x Transcend SD cards are currently $21.99 at newegg.com. The big-box stores rarely have good prices on high-speed cards, and are pretty stingy about capacities over 1 GB too.
wilfredo Posted February 19, 2007 Author Share #12 Â Posted February 19, 2007 Jeff, Â Thanks for the tip. Adorama had the specific SD to CompactFlash adapter I was looking for. I ordered it for $29.95. Â Wilfredo, Benitez-Rivera Photography
erl Posted February 19, 2007 Share #13 Â Posted February 19, 2007 Wilfredo, Â I bought my CF to CD adapter locally in Oz (no good to you I know), but B&H also have them over the internet. Â The other thing you can use the adapter for is using it to fit an SD card to a CF camera, if that is useful to you.
