opho.to Posted November 3, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted November 3, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hi, Â I'd transferred an old wrist strap from some ancient Russian camera to my M9. All had been going fine until earlier today, when I suddenly felt my wrist go light! The 40 year old stitching had just suddenly given way. Luckily I was in my sitting room, and the camera fell about a foot onto my sofa. No damage at all. Â Anyway, I'm off on holiday in a few days. Does anyone know where I can get a wrist sharp in the UK? I've tried my local Jessops, Jacobs and London Camera Exchange, but they just do neck straps, and often for silly prices. Â I just want one that's black, won't scratch my camera to shreds, and can be delivered in a few days, but they all seem to come from Italy or Hong Kong with 10 working day deliveries and silly prices. Oh, and isn;t going to suddenly give way! Â Why is nothing ever simple? Â Thanks.

menos I M6 Posted November 3, 2011 Share #4  Posted November 3, 2011 I wrote this looong time ago, but still regularly got hits on this page from people looking for a nice wrist strap solution for free (or to be correct, half the price of a Leica shoulder strap):  how to make your own Leica wrist strap  If you can operate a scissor, you can make your own - quality will be as the standard Leica shoulder strap.  Big bonus: the wrist strap will be very quickly and securely exchangeable with the original Leica quick connectors (reason, why I came to this little DIY solution). honcho Posted November 3, 2011 Share #5  Posted November 3, 2011 seafurydriver has the right idea, but I think the A&A braided silk neck strap does it better. Welcome, dear visitor! StephenPatterson Posted November 3, 2011 Share #9 Â Posted November 3, 2011 ...I think the A&A braided silk neck strap does it better. Â I like the braided A&A strap (in fact I like most things from A&A as their quality is second to none), but I prefer using my Luigi leather neck strap and wrapping it as shown above because the camera is "lashed" to my hand. This is very nice for street photography, where I carry the camera discretely at my side and quickly raise to my eye when a composition comes together. Â I would not use a wrist strap, as it's a one trick pony. Using a neck strap offers many more options. Â Stephen

Very nice, soft black leather and not at all expensive. Give David a call.
mmradman Posted November 3, 2011 Share #11  Posted November 3, 2011 Gordy's via www.tripman.co.uk about £18.50 with postage.
andybarton Posted November 3, 2011 Share #12 Â Posted November 3, 2011 Gordy's are an acquired taste. They are made from very hard leather. Â I had one and never acquired the taste, so I disposed of it.
bill Posted November 3, 2011 Share #13 Â Posted November 3, 2011 I have 3 Gordys, all different fitments. They are built like tanks, but soften quickly if you carry them in your pocket for a week. Â Regards, Â Bill

opho.to Posted November 3, 2011 Author Share #18 Â Posted November 3, 2011 Thanks all! Â Quite a few to look at, but you've pointed me in the direction of plenty of suppliers, which is great. Â (I have also noticed that some people's definition of 'cheap' is rather different from my own! ) Â Once again, thanks for the help.
Gerard Posted November 3, 2011 Share #19 Â Posted November 3, 2011 Gordy's work a treat. Cheap and effective. Mine softened within a couple of months and is just fantastic after two years.
chris_tribble Posted November 4, 2011 Share #20 Â Posted November 4, 2011 Get a split ring from any hardware shop which cuts keys. Go to a local climbing / outdoor shop and get some narrow braid or light climbing rope. (Mammut Tubular Polyamide Webbing (26mm) (SOLD BY THE METRE) | GO Outdoors) Cut to length, tie safely using a nail knot - Nail Knot | How to tie the Nail Knot | Fishing Knots, or double-fisherman's (http://www.animatedknots.com/doublefishermans/index.php?Categ=climbing&LogoImage=LogoGrog.jpg&Website=www.animatedknots.com) Personally I'm happy with the original strap wrapped round my wrist...
