Shade Posted November 3, 2011 Share #5 Posted November 3, 2011 I think dlux6 is coming out. Leica usually do several limited editions before the product gets replaced. They probably would introduce the safari edition after the titanium I reckon..
Guest happytogger Posted November 3, 2011 Share #6 Posted November 3, 2011 I have high hopes if it is not designed by panasonic. Let it be a Leica design in spirit.
john_newell Posted November 4, 2011 Share #7 Posted November 4, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think dlux6 is coming out. Leica usually do several limited editions before the product gets replaced. They probably would introduce the safari edition after the titanium I reckon.. Assuming continuity of this general product line, a D-Lux 6 would require the Panasonic counterpart to appear as well. At this point, the LX6 is just rumors. mjh Posted November 4, 2011 Share #8 Posted November 4, 2011 Back in August Panasonic said they wanted to keep the LX5 around a little while longer so they published a firmware update adding new and improving existing features. If there should be an LX6 it would be due in either February/March or August/September 2012, with a D-Lux 6 probably following suit.
NZDavid Posted November 6, 2011 Share #9 Posted November 6, 2011 Why was there never an LX4?

Warszawa Posted November 6, 2011 Share #11 Posted November 6, 2011 There was no lx4 because 4 sounds like "death" in Japanese. It's bad luck.

Digitom Posted November 23, 2011 Share #13 Posted November 23, 2011 There was no lx4 because 4 sounds like "death" in Japanese. It's bad luck. Same in China. For western companies it can be a big problem with a "number 4" unit in East Asia. Due to the same reason PSION did never bring out a Series 4 Handheld PC. After number 3 was number 5. A good thing for Leica Users: now Panasonics LX and Leicas D-Lux have same number and it is easy to check for compare them...
Tietje Posted November 23, 2011 Share #14 Posted November 23, 2011 There was no lx4 because 4 sounds like "death" in Japanese. It's bad luck. It was the same with Canon. There was the G7 and then the G9. G8 sounds like something very offensive in Chinese.
NZDavid Posted November 29, 2011 Share #15 Posted November 29, 2011 Hmm, nutty not having an LX4! Nikon managed to have an F4. When we stayed in Kuala Lumpur there was no floor 4 or 14, just 3A and 13A.
JeTexas Posted November 29, 2011 Share #16 Posted November 29, 2011 Fuji skipped the 4 as well and went S3 to S5 when they were still making their DSLRs a few years ago. You don't ever see a model 13 here in the U.S. -- although they have restored the 13th floor to most buildings.
StephenPatterson Posted November 30, 2011 Share #17 Posted November 30, 2011 While it's true that the Chinese mandarin word for "4" sounds similar to the word for "death" (different tones), and that Chinese will try to avoid phone numbers and license plates with the number 4, there is a realization that it is not possible for a civilization to advance without having a number between "3" and "5". Apple is certainly not having any trouble selling iPhone 4s in China.
Digitom Posted December 11, 2011 Share #18 Posted December 11, 2011 Apple is certainly not having any trouble selling iPhone 4s in China. Maybe in that special case chinese people (especially young ones) more look at lifestyle then tradition.
