Epson Retardation

For no apparent reason my Epson 3880 is using Photo Black ink instead of Matte Black when printing Velvet Fine Art Paper, or other Matte papers. It is not selecting the proper ink automatically, even though I indicate the paper type before printing. Since I can't select the ink manually, I'm stuck with the wrong ink on matte papers. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Thanks.

this is too funny .... i was just about to post same problem, you beat me to it! i have an epson r2880 and just got some hahnemuhle bamboo paper to try and taospace says set the paper to velvet fine art and yet with matte ink you can only choose matte papers then use the hahnemule icc for that paper and r2880 printer. does this mean velvet fine art should be using photo black instead? HELP!!!!!!!

Between the program and printing, and i use ps and capture one, Epson has it's own dialog box and it is there where paper issue exists. It is an Epson issue unless someone knows how to circumvent that box. Hence the thread

you pick a profile within ps and when you hit print the epson dialog box comes up -- here is where you tell it not manage color and what paper. best results occur when correct paper lines up with profile you set in ps (taospace has a list of relationships). if you have matte black in the printer, the gloss paper choices do not come up, and visa versa. anyway, if anyone on the forum has used an epson and can answer this issue it would be appreciated.

I use Photoshop CS4. It seems this problem started after I upgraded my IMAC to Mac OS X.

Except for temperamental loading of thicker papers, up until now it's been a great printer. No complaints about the prints it produces. They are the best I've printed to date.

Wilfredo, when you say you upgraded your iMac to OSX, do you actually mean you upgraded it to OSX 10.7 ?

If so then I think there was a thread earlier about printing issues with 10.7 and Epson. IIRC one had to reload the printer drivers, or some such. I noted this as I have the 3800 and am considering upgrading to 10.7. Have a quick search back over the last couple of months.

Hope this helps.

I believe it's OX S 10.7. I'm away for a few days but will check upon my return. The older I get the harder it is to keep up with all these freaken initials. I will try uninstalling printer software and installining again.

  • 2 weeks later...

Upon checking, I actually upgraded to MAC OSX Snow Leopard 10.6. The printer continues to print but doesn't pick the right black ink for the paper used. How do I uninstall the printer software? I need a step by step explanation please. I would really appreciate this. Once uninstalled, I will re-install the Eposn printer drivers again.

Thanks!
