Hello Friends,

I have a bunch of cassettes that I purchased the other day. I know I have 3 IXMOO's and 10 FILCA's (5 of type A ) & (5 of type B) and then also one lonely contax cassette.

What I'm curious about is the Agfa cassettes. Can someone be kind enough to comment on them. I did some searching on Google and Ebay and I cant find any info on Leica-Agfa cassettes, I have never seen them before. Thanks, Henry

Well, to translate the hole thread would take me quite a while.

But in a few words:

That was the Leica "Standard" and "II"cassette. The name was Leica Cassette Model D (commonly known as the "velvet cassette"). The cassette was invented in 1931 and is mentioned in 1938 Emmermann book.

The drawing you see mentions, that the little metal bridge had to be taken off to use it in the above mentioned Leica standard and II.

There is a lot more of information in the thread, so if you have any further questions please post them and I will try to find the information in the linked threads.

Kind regards, Michael

PS: Emmermann stated in his book in 1938, that the cassette was an invention of the Agfa company.

Btw: the Emmermann books (4 vols) are a must have for Leica collectors as also the Fritz Vieth books. But, I do not know, whether they ever were published in English.

This cassette "D" fits to screwmount cameras , when the small metal blade in the film - chamber looks like figure V2 in the other thread (http://www.l-camera-forum.com/leica-forum/attachments/leica-sammler-historica/28402d1173177089-leitz-agfa-kassette-patrone-1.jpg). It is easy to use it. You can pull out the bottom of the cassette, take off the spool and wind the film on it.

A problem is the velvet in the cassette. It might be dusty or its hairs can be loose. You should brush it from time to time with a toothbrush.

This cassette does not fit in any M-camera because it is too high. (This is similar to Filca and ixmoo. Only those with silver knobs fit in M-cameras too.)

Yours sincerely

Thomas
