vinster Posted October 31, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Firstly bought an ex-demo, M9 july 2010 with 643 shutter actuation . A brand new 35mm F2 in silver lens. £6050 , Couple of questions to confirm wether 643 is correct, ive just taking a couple of shots and processed then Aperture first shot number is L1000246 so unless camera has taking over a million shots actuation is 246 is that correct. Is there an inbuilt facility to dertermine shutter count. Also software appears to be 1.162 is it the up to date software.

Also software appears to be 1.162 is it the up to date software. Open the image in Photoshop. Click on File> File Info...> Then click on the 'Advanced' tab. Go down to Exif Properties and click it open. Scroll down until you see 'exif:ImageUniqueID:' There will be a bunch of zeros with some digits at the end. The digits at the end are a hexadecimal number with the shutter actuations. This needs to be converted to decimal. You can open the calculator on a Mac and click on View>Programmer. Click on the 16 in the upper right corner of the calculator and type in the final digits of the hexadecimal number, then click the 10. This will convert the hexadecimal number to a base decimal number and should be your shutter actuation number. Or, if it is easier for you, when you get the hexadecimal number, do a google search for a Hex to Decimal convertor and plug the Hex number in there to convert it. It is easier than it looks. Let us know what the number is.
vinster Posted October 31, 2011 Author Share #3 Posted October 31, 2011 Well certainly been given the wrong info using the hex number calculation done it 3 times and actuations comes out at 1653 .Certainly not 643. While its not the end of the world I may not have ought it had i known it had done 1643 or might have got a better deal. What to do, return or just bite the bullet and get on with it. Studio58 Posted October 31, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 31, 2011 if your calculation is correct it is still no big deal. Probably 600 of those actuations were made during testing at the factory.
thighslapper Posted October 31, 2011 Share #6 Posted October 31, 2011 my 'ex demo' had over 5000 actuations...... it did in fact have a number of niggly problems and was finally swapped for a new replacement after I suggested that with 5000 actuations and a serial number indicating it was 9 months old that it should have been sold as 'refurbished second hand'.... anyway if all is ok and you have a full warranty I wouldn't worry ..... Leica are very good at putting things right with minimal quibbles if there are problems..... get snapping and enjoy it.....

Buying an ex-demo Leica M9 with only 1643 actuations is nothing. It's not unusual for a camera to have 200 or so before leaving the factory. As for being a demo I've seen M9s at a Leica Akademie weekend put on more than a thousand. Fear not, for all practical purposes you have a new camera (with a warranty). Enjoy!!!!
