sksaito Posted October 31, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 31, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have an M3. After the film advance lever is advanced, once in awhile the shutter release button does not release. Most of the time it does. Just once in awhile. Shalll I have it CLAed again or does this sometimes happen with old cameras?
Advertisement Posted October 31, 2011 Posted October 31, 2011 Hi sksaito, Take a look here Shutter release problem. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Michael Hiles Posted October 31, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 31, 2011 Never happened to my untouched M3. Speak to the person who did your CLA - if it was not too long ago they might deal with under warranty.
earleygallery Posted October 31, 2011 Share #3 Posted October 31, 2011 Are you sure you have wound on fully? You advance the film and the shutter won't release - so how do you go from there? The film shouldn't be able to advance again and if you can't release the shutter you'd be stuck like that, no?
250swb Posted November 1, 2011 Share #4 Posted November 1, 2011 Yes it sounds like you are not winding on fully. As winding the film on is a pretty automatic function is there anything that could momentarily be getting in the way of your thumb/hand as you move the lever, like perhaps an ERC case, or a wide camera strap? sksaito Posted November 1, 2011 Author Share #5 Posted November 1, 2011 Hmmm. There's nothing in the way of the film advance lever. I made sure I advance it completely. When the shutter release is stuck, I try to advance the lever again and it won't go of course because I advanced it completely already. But after I attempt this, the shutter releases. I can understand if I'm not advancing it completely in the first place but I make sure I do. Just an attempt to advance it again releases the shutter. Am I doing something wrong? TomB_tx Posted November 1, 2011 Share #6 Posted November 1, 2011 I'm not sure about the M3, but on may film cameras the shutter button releases different "latches" for the shutter and the film wind, so they may release & fully latch at different points in the wind and release actions, if not adjusted right. I have an early Nikon F that will "click" as you push the button when the film-wind release acts, and you can then wind the film, but the shutter hadn't yet released. I have to remember to push the release farther to trip the shutter. Perhaps on your M3 the shutter wind and release need to be adjusted more carefully by a good repair tech. Falstaff Posted November 2, 2011 Share #7 Posted November 2, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) My double stroke M3 was doing this ie no click until I redid the last stroke again, after which all was fine. A service, which it needed anyway, seems to have solved that issue. As someone already suggested, speak to the person who serviced it for you.
