stephan_w Posted October 29, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 29, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) can anyone recommend a non-leica lens for the S2 (I had the luck to buy a S2 used, but no lens for this range). Requirements: - focal range about 100-120 mm, aperture about 2-2.8 - excelent optical performance - soft bokeh (better than the 70 mm ) - easy to fokus. and of course working with one of the Leica adapters thanks Stephan

The only lens that mostly fits your criteria is the Hasselblad 110mm f/2 FE. It does have a pleasing bokeh and is easy to focus, especially now that the S2 has focus confirmation in the viewfinder and the microprism screen will be shipping shortly. But, having compared optical quality and overall performance, the 120mm f/2.5 S lens beats the older Hassy by a wide margin. To give you some idea of relative performance, I tested the Pentax 67 105mm f/2.4 against the 120 S lens and published the results (lots of crops and real-world images): Testing the Pentax 105mm f/2.4 vs. the Leica 120mm f/2.5 APO on the Leica S2 The Hassy 110 is better than the Pentax 105, but nowhere near the performance level of the 120 Leica. albireo_double Posted October 30, 2011 Share #4 Posted October 30, 2011 I am in the same situation, considering the S2 and already have the 110 Planar. David, you say that the 110 Hassy lens is nowhere near the performance of the 120 mm Leica. Do you have any comparable images like those you published from the 105 Pentax lens? I am told (by the Leicashop Vienna guys) that the waiting time for the 120 Leica is now about 2 years, so the 110 Planar will most likely be called for duty for some time.... I don't have head-to-head tests for the 110 FE and the 120 S, but do have experience shooting both on the S2. I'm traveling right now, but I can see if I can make a simple comparison when I get home next week. As far as 120 availability, I know you are not in the USA, but we have 120 S lenses in stock. Actually, we have all S lenses in stock at the moment. Yes, we ship worldwide. David

dfarkas Posted November 2, 2011 Share #11 Posted November 2, 2011 Is this via the new focusing screen or a firmware update? Focus confirmation doesn't require a special focusing screen. It was enabled by a recent firmware update.
