Double Negative Posted October 28, 2011 Share #1 Â Posted October 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Curious about what's out there to "pimp your M?" We just posted up a new article covering "M System Accessories" that covers optical and ergonomic accessories, protection such as cases (and straps) and more. Film and digital bodies alike. Â Think of it as a quick guide, or "Accessories 101" for the M system. Â Enjoy!
Advertisement Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Hi Double Negative, Take a look here M System Accessories!. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
StephenPatterson Posted October 28, 2011 Share #2  Posted October 28, 2011 Thanks DN for a nice article. I'll play along...  M9-P Half case and strap in natural aged brown leather, hanging rear flap. From Luigi @ Leicatime. The leather feels wonderful and is easy to hold on to. Leica black dot. Purchased from Leitax in Spain for €8. This comes with a peel and stick adhesive back. Goes over rf adjustment cover screw. Makes my M9-P not look exactly like my M2. Abrahamsson Silver Soft Release Classic. Purchased from Popflash. For me I prefer having a soft release, as I can trip the shutter with less pressure. Leica UVa filter. Purchased with lens from dealer. Leica glass is expensive, so I like the extra protection and do not notice a difference in shooting with or without.  Welcome, dear visitor! We just posted up a new article covering "M System Accessories" that covers optical and ergonomic accessories, protection such as cases (and straps) and more. Film and digital bodies alike. Â OMG! Your piece on the astigmatism correction device, the Walter RX Eyepiece, woke me up! I have huge astigmatism and it's often made work more difficult. Thanks! Double Negative Posted October 30, 2011 Author Share #5 Â Posted October 30, 2011 OMG! Your piece on the astigmatism correction device, the Walter RX Eyepiece, woke me up! I have huge astigmatism and it's often made work more difficult. Thanks! Â You're quite welcome! I too have mild astigmatism, so I'm eager to see how the product works out. We'll be reviewing it in-depth very shortly, so keep an eye out on the site.
Paul Verrips Posted October 30, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted October 30, 2011 I like my M9 as nude as possible. Â Only ordered a black dot.

Peter H Posted October 30, 2011 Share #8 Â Posted October 30, 2011 In my opinion, there's no Leica M as beautiful as a completely unadorned, uncased, totally naked Leica M. Â If you have to stick something on it to help you use it, that's fine of course because it is a tool and function comes first, but I do think it spoils the look of it, if that matters. StephenPatterson Posted October 30, 2011 Share #9 Â Posted October 30, 2011 Function does come first, but the great thing about Leica is that the camera is stunning completely "au naturale". As for me I'm very proud of the Leica name and history, and I like having the black logo on the front of my camera.
bpalme Posted October 30, 2011 Share #10  Posted October 30, 2011 I just ordered the Really Right stuff base plate/grip/L combo: Really Right Stuff - Item Listing  Haven't received it yet but maybe something to add to your list of things. Ah never mind I see you got it there already.
Double Negative Posted October 30, 2011 Author Share #11 Â Posted October 30, 2011 ^ Yup, got it! Though I have to add the MD Grip... Â Nothing wrong with a nekkid M!
Messsucherkamera Posted October 31, 2011 Share #12 Â Posted October 31, 2011 A Rapidwinder is a great add on for street photography.
Jeff S Posted October 31, 2011 Share #13 Â Posted October 31, 2011 Black dots "expensive and hard to find"? Nope; fairly regularly on hand from DAG at $22. Â (Only accessory I've used on any M in 30 years...for a chrome M8.2...only the black version comes standard with black dot.) Â Jeff
farnz Posted October 31, 2011 Share #14 Â Posted October 31, 2011 Your article mentions the Thumbs Up and the SNOB to help with handling but not the Thumbie. In my view the Thumbie is a better solution than the Thumbs Up because it allows you to position it to suit your hand. Certainly worth a mention I'd have thought. pico Posted October 31, 2011 Share #15  Posted October 31, 2011 In my opinion, there's no Leica M as beautiful as a completely unadorned, uncased, totally naked Leica M. If you have to stick something on it to help you use it, that's fine of course because it is a tool and function comes first, but I do think it spoils the look of it, if that matters.  Function does come first, but consider that all the photographers who use them do not have ten fingers. The design of the original Leica was simple, even obvious, however solutions to complex design challenges appear simple once *evinced.  I suggest people stretch their imagination a bit to imagine the next generation of ergonomics that can last decades and cease obsessing and fondling what can be purchased and imagine greater, if only for a creative challenge.  * "When the solution is found it will be simple" -- Domina C. Double Negative Posted October 31, 2011 Author Share #16 Â Posted October 31, 2011 To address the concerns; Â - True, the black dot is actually cheap ($22 from DAG), but if you look on eBay, there are some robbers selling them for a LOT more. Not so much hard to find if you know where to look... I'll fix up that section. Â - I wanted to add the Thumbie and was thinking about it when I wrote the article but didn't have all the info. If someone can provide a website or something about it, I'd be more than happy to add it! Â - A Rapidwinder... Of course! I forgot to add a section for it, the Leicavit, the various motor drives... I'll add that in, no doubt. Â Thanks for all the feedback and suggestions everyone! I'll update the article with the new ideas and info.

bill Posted October 31, 2011 Share #18 Â Posted October 31, 2011 On the subject of Rapidwinders, I can attest to the Rapidgrip - I have one welded to my M7. It has a compartment for spare batteries - simple but so useful. I wrap two in a small sheet of paper on which I write my name, phone number and the date of the last battery change. Double Negative Posted October 31, 2011 Author Share #19 Â Posted October 31, 2011 I've updated the article with the new info! Â Here's a link to Steve Barnett's blog, which contains the info I expect you're looking for. Steve is the inventor and manufacturer of The Thumbie and is a member here. Perfect! Thank you, Pete! Â On the subject of Rapidwinders, I can attest to the Rapidgrip - I have one welded to my M7. It has a compartment for spare batteries - simple but so useful. I wrap two in a small sheet of paper on which I write my name, phone number and the date of the last battery change. That really is a great function (I've been tossing around the idea of a Luigi accessory for my straps for batteries/SD cards for similar reasons). I especially like the slip of paper with your info on it. Great stuff. Thanks, Bill!
Double Negative Posted November 1, 2011 Author Share #20 Â Posted November 1, 2011 I added a section on winders such as the Winder M, Rapidwinder and Leicavit, expanded other sections, replaced most of the images with better ones and generally formatted some of the options better. Even added a few more. Â Thanks for the feedback, everyone! Enjoy.
