brill64 Posted October 28, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) ..does anyone happen to know if there is a part number for the v2 MATE hood plastic rear cap, that clips over the two trigger release tabs when the hood is reversed for storage over the front of the lens? does it even exist? my local dealer thinks not & looks at me oddly. I'm asking if it is something still listed as the #12450 A53 M 4/28-35-50 hood can still be bought new. i've found that an e46 clip-on cap won't attach safely when a slim uv filter is in place and with the hood reversed over the lens. i've searched back through relevant threads but so far drawn blank. thanks for your advice! Advertisement Posted October 28, 2011 Posted October 28, 2011 Hi brill64, Take a look here #12450 A53 M 4/28-35-50 hood rear cap. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
michael_b_elmer Posted October 28, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 28, 2011 I did not know until reading your post that the lens hood (12450) could be mounted in the reverse direction, but yes it can, but then my front lens cap (14002) won't fit. According to Leica Handbook 2002/2003 p. p.23 no lens hood cap exists for this lens hood. A front lens cap of the snap-on type no. 14001 is indicated to be useable as well, however it cannot, according to a footnote, be used on accessories without female filter thread, e.g. slim type filters (such as the special low profile uv-filter no. 13329 for this lens). Maybe a front lens cap (cover) with cut-outs - like the ones used on some older R-lenses and, if I remember well, the M 28/2.8 3rd gen. - might be a solution. Or, simply remove your uv-filter which is, anyway, of very limited usefulness on this lens where the front lens is well protected by the lens hood when in use. Michael P.S. Always try Meister-camera.com/Hamburg for items you cannot find elsewhere.

lct Posted October 28, 2011 Share #4 Posted October 28, 2011 Did you think of using the hood # 12592 and hood cap # 14041?
michael_b_elmer Posted October 28, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 28, 2011 Did you think of using the hood # 12592 and hood cap # 14041? No. I just tried. 12592 is the hood for the 24/28 asph and is marked A58. The 12450 for the MATE II is marked A53. That explains why the 12592 does not fit - it is too big. spylaw4 Posted October 28, 2011 Share #7 Posted October 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) It is always possible that it might be available as a "spare part" via a Leica Service Agent as opposed to a dealer. So an enquiry there may (or may not) give the answer. Worth a try?

So an enquiry there may (or may not) give the answer. Worth a try? thank you! i'll definitely give that a try. in the meantime i'm reverting back to the original push on cap with the hood going back in my bag. although much smaller, i think there is a similar type of hood rear cap made for the 90 macro-elmar, to give you more of a picture. maybe also something i can make from a spare schneider push-on cap.. lct Posted October 29, 2011 Share #9 Posted October 29, 2011 ...i think there is a similar type of hood rear cap made for the 90 macro-elmar... Yes but it is too small. I would look for lens caps for R lenses. What diameter are you after exactly?

lct Posted October 29, 2011 Share #11 Posted October 29, 2011 Depends on dealer stocks (Amazon.com - Amazon.fr - Classic Collection - Maison du Leica - Popflash - Unique Photo and others).

I bought mine mint second-hand but needed to buy a new Leica cap #14001 (E49) in order to reverse the hood over the lens when not in use. The hood is metal; the cap is plastic. wda Posted October 29, 2011 Share #13 Posted October 29, 2011 my dealer told me some months ago that the hood for the Mate v2 was not available anymore. Was he wrong? I doubt it unless you can find old new stock in a non-mainstream Leica shop.
