Beyder28 Posted October 27, 2011 Share #1  Posted October 27, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I just wanted to share with you guys the impressive Leica M compatible rear lens caps that I bought from HeavyStar. I am just really impressed by what you get for $12. The cap is a bit slimmer than the standard rear caps that come with M lenses and its made out of metal and are a perfect chrome match to the chrome versions of lenses. I am very happy with the way its built and the look is fantastic.  Its not a big deal obviously but I just thought some on this forum would be interested, especially those who pay attention to detail. Below is the pic of it on my 28mm Cron in Chrome. Welcome, dear visitor! As registered member you'd see an image here… Simply register for free here – We are always happy to welcome new members! menos I M6 Posted October 28, 2011 Share #2 Â Posted October 28, 2011 I do not want to critic the heavystar caps or sound sour, but although the original Leica plastic caps are way overpriced and can wear out over time, for me, they are ideal. Â They are made of plastic, to not scratch up stuff in my bag or during lens changes - I like that idea. I would not use a chrome plated metal rear cap with my M-mount lenses in the bag, as nice, they might come. Â As an alternative to the expensive Leica caps, one can buy no brand rear caps for 1/3 the price of the Leicas, if wanted.

Ecar Posted October 28, 2011 Share #4 Â Posted October 28, 2011 +1 Got a few a while ago for some older lenses. Great item, well built, locks very well to the lens mount (unlike other el cheapo plastic ones). Never scratched anything, as there are no sharp edges. Weight is the only drawback. pico Posted October 28, 2011 Share #5 Â Posted October 28, 2011 HeavyStar has been very good to me over the years. Never had a problem. Â I wish someone (HeavyStar?) would make a less expensive copy of the lens shade for the early 75mm Summilux (I understand it also fits one of the early Noctiluxes.) Gerard Posted October 28, 2011 Share #6 Â Posted October 28, 2011 Plus 1 on that 75L hood. Â I wonder how many they would need ordered to turn a profit? Â If they made it screw in, it would be cheaper to make and would also fit most of the Nocti range.
cbretteville Posted October 28, 2011 Share #7 Â Posted October 28, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) I have a few of these too (in black) and they're really well built. My problem is that I have lenses that have rear elements protruding too far to use them. So I end up using the std Leica plastic ones. Carl

What a shame if true.

I have read somewhere here on the forum, that Leica changed the rear lens cap to include a logo.  This might be the reason for the old one being discontinued - I guess, this would make major news and rumors on some of the camera rumor sites around

I've been using HeavyStar's metal lens caps for a number of years and can't see myself returning to plastic ones. It's a pity he doesn't offer R lens caps or I'd have a few of those too.  Pete.
