Guest henjenn Posted October 26, 2011 Share #1 Posted October 26, 2011 Advertisement (gone after registration) Hello again. I picked these items up from Auction Breker. They sent me a huge box of filters and miscellaneous Leica items. I was able to identify everything except these three items. Please offer any info you have about these three items. 1st item looks like a circular polarizer. Its size is 36mm . I cant seem to find this item anywhere online. Is it rare? 2nd item is a plastic black cap. 36mm as well ... but the lettering seems off. Can anyone verify if this is a real Leica cap. 3rd item is a 39mm cap. Whats weird is that the cap says Leitz instead of Leica and the cap has a textured gray paint. Please help me learn about these items. I really appreciate all of you for the knowledge you pass along. doubice Posted October 27, 2011 Share #2 Posted October 27, 2011 Henry, No.1: Indeed a polarizing filter, A36 slip-on mount, code most prabably POOLN No 2: Ordinary pre-war A36 lens cap. There were variations in the Leica script - this is not unusual. No 3: This is a cap for a Leitz projection lens, supplied with Prado or Pradovit projectors Best, Jan
someonenameddavid Posted October 29, 2011 Share #3 Posted October 29, 2011 The first question included "it looks like a circular polarizer". Circular polarizers were not generally available until Canon developed a method of using a viewing screen to divert a fixed proportion of the light to a meter: this portion was polarized and was affected unduly by the ordinary "linear" polarizing filter. The circular polarizer has a second layer which randomly depolarizes the polarized light (I don't know how it's done, I'm a doctor, not a physicist) so that the viewed light looks polarized, darkened skies, diminished glare, but it is not. The filter is way too old to be circular polarizer. David

huubl Posted October 30, 2011 Share #5 Posted October 30, 2011 circular: perhaps referring to the round shape of the filter. Not to the circular polarization of the glass... ?
Pecole Posted October 30, 2011 Share #6 Posted October 30, 2011 circular: perhaps referring to the round shape of the filter. Not to the circular polarization of the glass... ? Of course it means "circular polarization" !

I referred, kind of tongue in cheek', to the original poster's suggestion of a 'circular polarizer'.
