I know most of you guys are professionals and wouldn't be taught anything new but I'm a newbe with RF cameras I think I could benifit and its only $280 bucks. If I do this it will be at Irving Tx May 11 anyone else attending this one?
Advertisement Posted February 17, 2007 Posted February 17, 2007 Hi mwalker649, Take a look here Leica M8 workshop. I'm sure you'll find what you were looking for!
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 17, 2007 Share #2 Â Posted February 17, 2007 Mike I hear from my leica sales reps that this is supposed to be a really good workshop that they do. So for the money it really maybe worth attending
stunsworth Posted February 17, 2007 Share #3 Â Posted February 17, 2007 Mike I attended a similar Leica function in the UK a couple of years ago - though for film cameras. Â It could be worth it just to have a play with the lenses - the event I attended had all of the M lenses available, and there were a few one hour sessions where we could try the lenses out of doors. harmsr Posted February 17, 2007 Share #4 Â Posted February 17, 2007 Mike, Â I signed my wife up for it here in Phoenix this May. Â Basically, it is class to familiarize a person with the operation of the M8. Then how to get the images onto the computer, into C1 LE, and then out for print. As I understood it, it is not really a photography class but rather a familiarization with the M8 and setting up a basic workflow for those new to digital. Â Best, Â Ray
Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 17, 2007 Share #5 Â Posted February 17, 2007 Ray what are you nuts. You will NEVER see your M8 again after your wife figures it out. This is just going to cost you another body. LOL Â I'm just kidding. My wife about killed me when i sold her Digi 2 , she loved that thing . Now i am hiding my M8's from her, i may be crazy but I ain't dumb either. LOL
stephengilbert Posted February 17, 2007 Share #6 Â Posted February 17, 2007 Ray, Â Your description of the workshop--that among other things it teaches how to download, import, etc., images--makes me think it might be an incredible concept to provide a manual, you know, a FRIGGIN BOOK, to explain how C1 works. I love the fact that experts such as Jamie can create profiles for it, but it might be nice to explain to people who've never used it how it works. In years of reading bad program help, I have to say that Capture One takes the cake. Â Steve
mwalker649 Posted February 17, 2007 Author Share #7 Â Posted February 17, 2007 Advertisement (gone after registration) I think I will sign up however I plan to use Light Room instead of C1 LE just because thats what I've been using ie.. Beta Versions. Learning more about the M8 may come in handy plus I have friends in Dallas I need to visit :-)
mitchell Posted February 17, 2007 Share #8 Â Posted February 17, 2007 Steve, Â I totally agree with you. I'm trying to decide on an alternate program, but it seems a bad time to make a decision with C1, Aperture, Lightroom, and PS all coming out with major updates or support for the M8. Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 17, 2007 Share #9 Â Posted February 17, 2007 Right now i would certainly keep your options open to see what comes next in terms of raw processing and also anything that Leica may have come up with in terms of firmware. Things are changing fast and when the dust settles than you can see what program in terms of color and workflow work best for you. I'm bouncing around just like everyone else and a big C1 fan

If I do this it will be at Irving Tx May 11 anyone else attending this one?  I know Bob Rudolph and Steven Wright from this area are attending the Chicago Workshop on April 5th.  Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think the first one for the M8 in this country isn't until the end of this month....  Here's the link again if anyone missed it the first time:  Leica M8 Workshops/Center for Digital Imaging  Thanks.  Allan
harmsr Posted February 17, 2007 Share #11 Â Posted February 17, 2007 Guy, Â Currently she is shooting a Nikon D80 with the kit lens 18-135. She is having fun with photography, but I have to do all the processing and printing. My patience level is just not up to teaching her myself. Therefore, I signed her up for the class. Â I really hope that she does eventually want an M8. That would give me an excuse for another body and more lenses. I could use her gear for backup and even have her carry it. Guest guy_mancuso Posted February 17, 2007 Share #12 Â Posted February 17, 2007 Taking a good class and learning with a M8 is a great way to teach someone the REAL way to learn how to operate a camera.

I agree, I think it will help me better learn RF photography...I'm not going to shut out the C1 either I just learned on CS and lightroom beta. carstenw Posted February 17, 2007 Share #17  Posted February 17, 2007 Wth respect to Berlin, I don't see any yet, but there is a Workshops link on the German M8 page, here:  Leica Camera AG - Fotografie - M8  It doesn't seem to work at the moment, but I suppose it will come back at some point. Guest stnami Posted February 17, 2007 Share #18  Posted February 17, 2007 REAL way to learn how to operate a camera.... I doubt if there is a real way but there are ways of using a camera. Generally most post processing applications are very similar as they all strive for the same end results... the best image possible from the file on offer. It really is a means of practice and being open to experimentation, seeing what the limits are. I tell my students to think about it even as they take images, will such and such work or is it doomed for failure, even then give it a try etc. However getting it right in camera comes first both technically and composition wise. For those that are not so confidant classes can be of great benefit. Some of the places where I teach I am pretty lucky as the computers are networked so I can help a student with their image midstream, whack it on the big screen, go through the history, possible changes to the image etc. The same goes if a student who comes up with a method or process, show it on the big screen and we all share. Sharing as oppossed to solely demonstrating is still the best learning process, if the lessons only cater for look/listen and no participation they are a waste of time for people staring out. I generally work for government insitutions, my preference....... Are courses worth the money? Think what you would charge and then make your decision
mwalker649 Posted February 17, 2007 Author Share #19  Posted February 17, 2007 ... Are courses worth the money? Think what you would charge and then make your decision  280.00 though is nothing as long as the seminar is worth while (plus T&L). In my business seminars run $500 to 2-3k. I'm sure these workshops will fill up quick. They are taking 15 per class.

As my second body is not officially recognized by her ( I bought an identical one and she pretends not to know about it) I cannot pull it out......Notice the lens-cap beside me :( Â
